Job summary

VSCO is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the development of high-quality mobile React Native applications, mentor engineers, and drive architectural decisions that align with company goals. You will collaborate with Product, Design, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, end-to-end mobile experiences across iOS, Android, and web.

The role emphasizes writing code, solving complex problems, and staying current with new technologies while championing best practices and eventual AI-assisted tooling

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience with at least 4+ years focused on mobile iOS development using React Native.
• Deep expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern front-end technologies including Expo.
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and third-party services.
• Familiarity with state management libraries (e.g., Redux) and asynchronous programming.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of high-quality, scalable mobile React Native applications. Push for rigorous testing, solid CI practices, and high standards across the codebase.
• Collaborate on and own decision making on forward-thinking architectural decisions. Align technical choices with company goals, and be pragmatic enough to choose the faster path when the business demands it.
• Mentor and elevate the team: guide engineers through tricky bugs, design decisions, and architectural trade-offs.
• Drive code quality through PR reviews, pushing work toward completion in an encouraging way.
• Champion AI-assisted development. You’ve used AI tools extensively in your own workflow and mentor others to adopt them.
• Collaborate across the organization: work closely with Product, Design, and business stakeholders.
• Willing to blur the lines: step outside your defined role when needed.
