Job description

Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system – reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.

What we need

As a Staff Quality Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert for electrical and electronic quality across Symbotic products. You will provide quality leadership throughout the design, development, industrialization, production, and field lifecycle of complex electrical and electronic systems, including electronic control units, power distribution systems, PCBAs, electrical assemblies, and related subsystems.

In this role, you will partner closely with Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Test, Supply Chain, and Supplier Quality to identify and mitigate quality and reliability risks early in the product development lifecycle. You will provide technical guidance on electrical requirements, design risks, failure modes, manufacturing controls, validation strategies, and supplier quality to ensure robust product performance and production readiness.

You will lead quality planning and risk management activities for new product introductions and production transfers while providing technical leadership for complex electrical quality issues affecting existing products. The Staff Quality Engineer will lead and influence APQP activities from early design and prototype development through production ramp and field performance, ensuring customer, regulatory, reliability, and internal engineering requirements are effectively addressed.

This role will also analyze field performance data, electrical subsystem failures, robot health metrics, supplier defects, and site quality trends to identify systemic improvement opportunities and drive increased product reliability.

What we do

The Quality Engineering team ensures Symbotic products successfully transition from development into production and continue to perform reliably throughout their lifecycle. The team partners cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, and Test to embed quality planning, risk management, defect prevention, and process validation into product development and production.

Quality Engineering provides technical leadership from early product design through prototype builds, production ramp, and field deployment. By identifying risks early, challenging designs constructively, applying robust quality and reliability methods, and using manufacturing and field data to drive continuous improvement, the team helps ensure reliable product launches and consistent system performance.

What you’ll do

  • Serve as the Quality Engineering subject matter expert for electrical and electronic systems, providing technical guidance across design, development, manufacturing, supplier, and field activities.

  • Lead quality planning and deliverables for new product introductions and production transfers, including APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA alignment, CTQ definition, Control Plans, validation, and production readiness.

  • Partner with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Test, and Supplier Quality to identify and mitigate design, component, process, and reliability risks early in the product lifecycle.

  • Lead complex electrical and electronic failure investigations using structured root-cause methodologies, drive corrective and preventive actions, and verify effectiveness.

  • Evaluate manufacturing and supplier readiness through process validation, capability studies, measurement system analysis, production controls, and appropriate part approval processes.

  • Analyze manufacturing, supplier, test, and field performance data to identify emerging quality and reliability risks and drive systemic product and process improvements.

  • Influence design-for-quality, manufacturability, testability, and reliability decisions by providing data-driven technical recommendations to engineering and program teams.

  • Establish and improve quality standards, methods, and best practices for electrical and electronic products while driving lessons learned across product platforms.

  • Provide technical mentorship to Quality Engineers and act as a senior technical resource for cross-functional teams.

  • Communicate significant quality risks, technical findings, and recommended actions to engineering, program, and senior leadership.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable internal quality systems, engineering requirements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required.

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Quality Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field supporting complex products in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong technical background in electrical and electronic systems, including experience with products such as PCBAs, ECUs, power distribution systems, power electronics, wiring/interconnects, sensors, or other electronic assemblies.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess electrical/electronic design and manufacturing risks, identify failure modes, and lead complex technical investigations from root cause through corrective action and verification.

  • Strong knowledge and practical application of quality engineering tools and methodologies, including APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, DOE, MSA/GR&R, SPC, 8D, and structured root-cause analysis.

  • Experience supporting new product development and production introduction, including design reviews, risk assessment, validation, engineering change management, supplier quality, and manufacturing readiness.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret manufacturing, test, supplier, and field data and translate findings into actionable technical recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, influence cross-functional teams, and drive decisions and issue resolution without direct reporting authority.

  • Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, SAA, or equivalent, along with advanced Excel skills.

  • CQE, Six Sigma Black Belt, ISO 9001/AS9100 auditor certification, or relevant electrical/electronics industry experience and certifications are preferred.

Our Environment

  • Up to 30% travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client, supplier, manufacturing, and other company locations.

  • Employees may be required to use a personal credit card for business travel expenses, which are reimbursed based on the program guidelines. Eligible employees may receive a corporate credit card based on role and travel requirements, but a personal credit card may be needed during onboarding until the corporate card is issued.
