Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Michigan seeks a Staff Psychologist to provide clinical assessments, psychotherapy, and consultation within a multidisciplinary team. The incumbent will perform complex psychological testing, behavioral assessments, and support treatment for chronic pain populations.

The role includes working Monday–Friday, integration with EDRP, generous leave, and federal benefits. Telework not available; on-site at VA facilities in Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Psychologists diagnose mental disorders - conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments - treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders
• Among the modalities provided are individual - family - and group psychotherapies - and other interventions such as biofeedback - psychological hypnosis - and environmental interventions
• They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues
• Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or process improvement
• Duties include but are not limited to: The incumbent's clinical focus is as an assessment specialist - behavioral health interventionist - and consultant to the clinicians
• Incumbent provides complex assessment services including administering - scoring and interpreting a range of psychological testing - interviewing patient and their families - behavioral assessment of a patient's condition and progress - determining the type of psychotherapy best suited to meet the patient's needs and resources - assessing a patient's degree of improvement and readiness for termination of treatment - and assessing the type of community placement which would be most suitable - if appropriate
• The psychologist will work with the multidisciplinary staff to implement programs in group and individual counseling - psychological assessment and behavioral interventions in a complex chronic pain population

Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
