Okta is hiring a Staff Product Designer – UI Platform as a high-impact individual contributor to lead foundational design work for global user experience infrastructure. This hybrid role in Bellevue, WA focuses on UI platform and design system leadership, data-informed accessibility-first patterns aligned with WCAG, and strategic partnership across UI Platform and engineering teams for Workforce Identity products.

Role Focus

This position serves as a resident expert shaping horizontal design patterns that support Okta’s Workforce Identity ecosystem. You will help define design architecture, accessibility standards (WCAG), and localization or globalization frameworks that enable consistent experiences across products. The role also strengthens alignment between UX and DevEx through close collaboration with UI Platform leads and engineering organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Design Systems team to act as a UI platform and design system expert by identifying or creating, documenting, and evangelizing scalable, accessible (WCAG), and localized patterns.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional UI Platform leads to align vision with design strategy and co-own a roadmap that balances features, technical debt, quality, and adoption.
  • Enable Okta Research and Development teams through clear alignment and documentation.
  • Improve org-wide processes and mentor designers to support craft excellence, candid feedback, and professional growth.
  • Use data and AI insights to inform platform-level design decisions and streamline governance.
  • Maintain a consistent quality bar, especially when speed increases pressure.
  • Shape horizontal patterns and standards including design architecture, localization/globalization frameworks, and WCAG accessibility expectations for Workforce Identity products.
  • Drive platform-level initiatives by coordinating with UI Platform leads to harmonize user experience and developer experience across product and engineering organizations.
  • Work closely with the Design Systems team as a bridge between the system and feature teams applying it across products.
Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency in AI workflows and practical judgment on how to apply AI to the product design process, including where AI helps and where it falls short.
  • Passion for helping customers solve real problems while upholding design UX principles to support cohesive, high-quality experiences.
  • Strong teamwork mindset and a track record of contributing to a healthy team dynamic.
  • Systems-thinking approach with the ability to identify elegant, extensible solutions.
  • High craft standards with comfort in detailed review to protect customer experience quality, plus experience providing design feedback and mentorship.
  • Learning mindset with openness and curiosity for navigating ambiguity and driving toward clarity.
  • Comfort owning all stages of design for multiple teams within a product area and partnering with product and UX outcomes at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, including translating complex concepts into clear narratives and advocating for consistent high-quality design based on rationale.
  • Portfolio evidence of leading complex work across conceptual design, interaction design, information architecture, and visual design, ideally across large horizontal scopes for enterprise and SaaS products.
  • Degree in a related field, or relevant work experience as a Product Designer.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Product Designer.
