Job summary

Moog Space & Defense Group seeks a Staff Power Electronics Engineer at Gilbert, AZ to architect and deliver high‑reliability power electronics for spacecraft and defense systems. You will lead design efforts and mentor engineers across teams.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years designing power electronics for high-reliability applications.
  • Experience with DC-DC converters, schematic capture, and PCB design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design high-reliability power electronics including DC-DC converters and related subsystems.
  • Perform circuit design, simulation, component selection, schematic capture, and guide PCB layout, thermal, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Lead hardware bring-up, integration, debug, verification, and qualification activities.
  • Develop and review specifications, design reviews, test plans, and verification documentation.
  • Collaborate with systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs meet aerospace and defense reliability, environmental, and performance requirements.

Moog has partnered with NASA to provide electronic solutions for the Artemis Orion Crew Capsule, Viper Lunar Rover, Satellite Laser Communications Relay, OSIRIS-REX to study asteroid composition along with complete satellite buses for the defense department.We are seeking a talented Staff Power Electronics Engineer for our facility in Gilbert, AZ.**Role Overview**Moog Space & Defense Group develops high-reliability avionics, power distribution, onboard computing, and spacecraft electronics supporting NASA, civil space, and defense missions. We are seeking a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design of high-reliability power electronics for spacecraft and defense systems.This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for architecting and delivering power conversion solutions while mentoring engineers and partnering across systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and program teams.**What You'll Do*** Architect and design high-reliability power electronics including DC-DC converters and related subsystems such as inverters, motor drives, or battery-management systems.* Perform circuit design, simulation, component selection, schematic capture, and guide PCB layout, thermal, and EMI/EMC considerations.* Lead hardware bring-up, integration, debug, verification, and qualification activities.* Develop and review specifications, design reviews, test plans, and verification documentation.* Solve complex technical issues using structured root-cause analysis.* Provide technical mentorship and design guidance to less experienced engineers.* Collaborate with systems, software, mechanical, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle.* Ensure designs meet aerospace and defense reliability, environmental, and performance requirements.**Required Qualifications*** Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.* 10+ years designing power electronics for aerospace, defense, industrial, or other high-reliability applications.* Strong experience designing DC-DC power converters or closely related power conversion circuits.* Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (Cadence Allegro, Altium, or similar).* Experience using simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, Mathcad, or equivalent.* Strong understanding of power semiconductor devices.
