Job summary

Zūm is seeking an experienced software engineer to own and evolve the product platform. You will architect scalable backend services, guide monolith extraction, and integrate secure, scalable patterns using TypeScript, Kubernetes, and modern data stores.

Based in Redwood Shores, CA, this on-site role requires 3x weekly presence and offers a competitive compensation package with equity options. You will collaborate with product teams and leadership to drive platform strategy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of industry experience as a Software Engineer, with significant time building platforms or core backend systems.
• Deep expertise in Node.js/TypeScript and relational database design, including schema modeling and indexing.
• Hands-on experience with service-oriented backends: Kubernetes, Kafka, gRPC, Redis, and search/indexing with OpenSearch.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and roadmap for Zūm's product platform and build it with the product engineering team.
• Stay hands-on with the product: build and review features to keep foundational layers practical.
• Lead extraction of services from a monolith with safe, clear decisions on what should be split.
• Integrate security by design: build authentication methods and access rules for sensitive data.
