Burns & McDonnell in the United States seeks a Staff Pipeline Engineer to lead pipeline design from concept through design completion, for transmission and distribution projects, and to adapt plans for budget, design factors, or client needs.

You will modify drawings in CAD software, design components, compile data and reports, perform field inspections, and ensure compliance with all policies and standards across multiple locations.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree in mechanical or civil engineering with 3 years pipeline experience.
  • Or degree in mechanical or civil engineering technology with FE and 3 years pipeline experience.
  • Or master’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering with 2 years pipeline experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design pipeline projects from concept through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for pipeline projects.
  • Design components to meet project needs per manager guidance.
  • Apply pipeline engineering concepts, codes and procedures.
  • Compile project data, write specifications and assess feasibility.
  • Update drawings in CAD software and review shop drawings.
  • Prepare information for client presentations and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.

Description

The Staff Pipeline Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of pipeline projects, including transmission and distribution pipelines. The Staff Pipeline Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting pipeline plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.

  • Perform pipeline design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects, including, but not limited to, pipeline projects, including transmission & distribution pipelines.
  • Design pipeline components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Apply strong knowledge of commonly used pipeline engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the pipeline engineering services industry.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Compile studies and reports. Write specifications. Assess feasibility or soundness of proposed applications when data is insufficient, or testing is advisable.
  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
  • Compile information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of pipeline projects, including transmission & distribution pipelines.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or a related degree from an ABET-accredited program, and 3 years of pipeline engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
  • Or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering Technology or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of pipeline engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
  • Or Master's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering and 2 years of pipeline engineering experience required, consulting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in standard pipeline engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ATF).
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
