Job summary

Lehigh University’s Student Affairs division seeks a Staff Physician at the Health and Wellness Center in Bethlehem, PA to deliver comprehensive primary care to a diverse student community with clinical rigor and genuine care.

In this ambulatory setting you’ll diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions, coordinate referrals, and promote preventive health and wellness through student-focused counseling and health initiatives.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree required.
  • Three to five years of work-related clinical experience.
  • Active, unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license and BLS.
  • Solid understanding of healthcare compliance and documentation standards.
  • Experience in college health, adolescent medicine, or similar setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based primary care by diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic conditions.
  • Obtain histories, perform exams, order/interpret tests, and coordinate care plans.

Lehigh University's Student Affairs division is looking for a Staff Physician who understands that a student's ability to thrive academically and personally begins with their health. Based at Lehigh's on-campus Health and Wellness Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, you'll deliver comprehensive primary care to a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students — bringing clinical rigor and genuine human connection to every encounter. Working within an ambulatory health setting, you'll be the clinical anchor for students navigating everything from acute illness to ongoing chronic conditions.

Position Number: S80380

This position is a Grade: 13 - 40with an approximate salary range of $136,340-$180,000 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications.

Key Accountabilities
  • Deliver evidence-based primary care by diagnosing, treating, and managing both acute and chronic conditions, including performing office-based procedures and coordinating specialty referrals.
  • Evaluate patient health by obtaining medical histories, performing physical exams, and ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests to develop and manage tailored treatment plans and prescribe medications.
  • Provide preventive health services—such as screenings, risk assessments, and immunizations—alongside patient-centered counseling to promote overall wellness and disease prevention.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment within your scope of practice to coordinate patient care, monitor progress, and dynamically adjust treatment plans to ensure high quality and continuity.
  • Respond empathetically to complex or sensitive health concerns—such as mental and sexual health—by providing ongoing care, managing specialty referrals, and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Serve as a supervising or collaborating physician for Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) in accordance with state requirements while reviewing and documenting external health forms and medical data.
  • Support efficient clinic flow within a team-based care model and actively participate in developing and implementing clinical protocols, guidelines, and service delivery enhancements.
  • Contribute to university-wide health initiatives, outreach, and educational programming, while serving on university or Student Affairs committees dedicated to student health and wellbeing.
  • Maintain all required professional licenses, certifications, and prescriptive authority while strictly adhering to clinical, legal, and regulatory standards such as HIPAA and infection control.
  • Ensure high-quality patient data management by completing accurate and timely documentation within electronic medical records.
  • Commit to continuous practice improvement by participating in quality assurance activities and maintaining clinical competency through continuing medical education and evidence-based practice.
Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
  • Three to five years of work related experience
  • Active, unrestricted Pennsylvania state medical license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Solid understanding of healthcare compliance requirements and clinical documentation standards
  • A communication style that builds trust with young adults who may be managing health decisions independently for the first time
  • Experience in college health, adolescent medicine, or a comparable setting that reflects the population and pace of Lehigh's Health and Wellness Center

The Staff Physician provides comprehensive primary care to university students in an ambulatory health setting. The Staff Physician exercises advanced clinical judgment and evidence-based practice to support student health and ensure high-quality, compliant care delivery.
