Cardinal Health in Springfield, MO is seeking a Nuclear Pharmacist to ensure safe, accurate radiopharmaceutical preparation and timely distribution. This role involves floating coverage across Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas, with a focus on quality, compliance and patient care.

You will lead staffing, oversee workflows, and collaborate with suppliers while maintaining regulatory standards in a nuclear environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or PharmD required by start date.
• Ability to travel to Cardinal Health facilities in Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas – approximately 50% travel or more.
• Valid Pharmacist’s license in the states in which the pharmacy operates (Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas), or is eligible to obtain valid licensure.
• Working knowledge of biohazardous waste management procedures preferred
• Willingness to travel to other pharmacies as needed to provide occasional coverage
• Strong customer service skills
• Manual dexterity required for occasional reach, lifting and holding of small objects and dispensing doses
• Must hold a valid driver's license
• Intermediate computer skills (ability to use computers and tablets).
• Ability to manage weight up to 75 pounds.
• May require vendor credentialing
• Basic proficiency in English is required, including being able to read and write in English in order to process documents.
• Comfortable working in a nuclear environment
• Prior Authorized User certification is preferred. Nuclear Pharmacy Training can be provided
• Authorized User: as defined by NRC, 700 hours training including didactic and supervised on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist, including compounding of nuclear medications, testing for quality and directing distribution using a team of drivers.
• Manages inventory and procurement to maintain drug availability, reviews and identifies alternative drugs to mitigate risks.
• Leads processes for hiring, onboarding, and performance management of pharmacy staff.
• Directs internal nuclear pharmacy workflows, optimizing staffing and scheduling for efficient operations.
• Supports plans to lower costs, increase efficiency and drive growth in the nuclear pharmacy business.
• Maintains relationships with outside suppliers and vendors for drug components and demand planning.
• Performs administrative tasks and interactions with customers to facilitate operations.
• Delivers doses if necessary.

Nuclear Pharmacy is responsible for providing radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs to medical care providers under highly regulated State and Federal guidelines; may also consult with or advise physicians and nuclear medicine technologists on the safe and efficacious use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy.

Shift/Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• Various schedule with a mix of days, nights, weekend, holiday and on call work. Rotating call and holidays will be required.

Responsibilities

• This role will be based in Springfield, MO – but will provide floating coverage to Cardinal Health pharmacies in Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas
• Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist, including compounding of nuclear medications, testing for quality through chromatography, and directing distribution of medication using a team of drivers.
• Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary.
• Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation.
• Manages and directs internal workflows of nuclear pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in-class and streamlined pharmacy operations.
• Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the nuclear pharmacy business.
• Maintains relationships with outside suppliers and vendors to understand availability of drug components and assist in demand planning.
• Participates in administrative tasks to facilitate nuclear pharmacy operations, including interactions with customers.
• Performs other job-related duties as required to ensure the goals and objectives of the department are met including delivering doses if necessary.

• Authorized User: As defined in part by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, an individual who has completed a minimum of 700 hours of training in a structured educational program consisting of both didactic training and supervised on the job training in radiation physics, instrumentation, radiation protection, chemistry, math and radiation biology. This is usually divided into two sections: 200 hours of formal course work and 500 hours of supervised experience. For current pharmacists, the requirements are the same plus a preceptor statement of training from an Authorized Nuclear Pharmacist.
