Job summary

Wayne UNC Health Care is seeking an Occupational Therapist to evaluate and treat patients with functional impairments, planning activities to restore independence and mobility. You will develop plans of care, coordinate with a multidisciplinary team, and educate patients and families on treatment goals.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, plans and implements treatment programs for referred patients.
  • Designs care plans with goals, outcomes and discharge plans; adjust based on response.
  • Collaborates with providers, nurses, other therapy staff and vendors.
  • Educates patient and family regarding treatment plans.
  • Provides services efficiently to minimize backlogs in patient flow.
  • Completes documentation for evaluation and treatment to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Documents accurate charges on all patients in a timely manner.
  • Initiates schedule changes promptly.
  • Provides in-service training to teammates as needed.
  • Assists in training students.
  • Supervises OTAs, Rehab Techs and secretarial teammates; serves as a resource.
  • Completes CE and in-service programs to meet requirements.
  • Participates in staff meetings and committees; contributes to performance improvement.
  • Maintains professional demeanor and high standards of customer service.

Summary

The Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in function due to injury, disease or other or conditions that impact activities of daily living, mobility and independence. Plans, organizes and directs patients in recommended activities that improve and manage their conditions and restore or increase functional independence, mobility and comfort.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Evaluates, plans and implements treatment programs for referred patients according to accepted principles and practices of occupational therapy.
  • 2. Designs an appropriate plan of care that integrates goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge plan. Adjusts the care based on patient response and available evidence.
  • 3. Collaborates with providers, nurses, other therapy providers and vendors.
  • 4. Educates patient and family regarding treatment plans.
  • 5. Provides services effectively and efficiently to minimize backups in patient flow.
  • 6. Completes documentation pertaining to evaluation and treatment to meet regulatory requirements including interventions provided in combination with patient response.
  • 7. Documents accurate charges on all patients on a timely basis.
  • 8. Initiates appropriate schedule changes on a timely basis.
  • 9. Provides in-service training to teammates as needed or directed.
  • 10. Assists in training students as needed.
  • 11. Provides supervision and direction to Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehab Services Technicians and secretarial teammates. Serves as a resource and role model.
  • 12. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.
  • 13. Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
  • 14. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • 15. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service and patient care, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm when under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems. Relates to patients in a compassionate and sincere manner.
  • 16. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
  • 17. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely and consistently uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Education Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited curriculum in Occupational Therapy.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
  • Current North Carolina State license as an OT or eligible. BLS required.
Professional Experience Requirements
  • Prior experience preferred, but new graduates are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements
  • Knowledge of contemporary and evidence-based OT practices.
  • Ability to interpret clinician prescriptions and referrals.
  • Ability to motivate, educate and encourage patients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, caregivers and other health care professionals or teammates.
  • Proficient with MS Office and Epic\EMR software, with the ability to learn new software rapidly.
