Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier 2) — also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool — for Perioperative services. These staff nurses will circulate several services to cover University of Iowa Health Care University Campus, Stead Family Children’s Hospital, UI Health Care Downtown Campus, and UI Health Care North Liberty Campus.

Requirements include nursing licensure in Iowa, 2+ years in perioperative nursing, and strong communication

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier 2) - also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool - for Perioperative services. These staff nurses will circulate several services to cover University of Iowa Health Care University Campus, Stead Family Children’s Hospital, UI Health Care Downtown Campus, and UI Health Care North Liberty Campus.

Key Areas Of Responsibility

  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Participates in projects/committees for enhanced functioning of the unit and supports unit level decision-making.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills with adult population across all services in acute and ambulatory setting
  • Prepare and educate patients for discharge following proper procedures.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of an interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff and the ongoing education of personnel, as directed by the Nurse Manager or designee.
  • Applies quality improvement principals to improve patient outcomes.
  • Adheres to UI Health Care policies regarding personal conduct, including follows established leadership, remaining responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meeting the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctuality.

Percent of Time: 80-100%

Schedule: Rotating 8,10 or 12 hour shifts for days, evenings or nights. Weekends and holidays per management discretion.

Education Requirements

An associate’s degree in nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

Experience Requirements

  • 2 or more years of experience within Perioperative nursing in the circulating role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to scrub one or more services.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
  • A minimum of 2 years of inpatient nursing experience, preferably within the last 5 years, is highly desired.
