About the Opportunity

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the supervision of theNursing Supervisor and/or Medical Director and functions as anactive, collaborative member of Northeastern University Health andCounseling Services (UHCS). The RN provides nursing services forpreventative health, urgent care, triage, immunization compliance,follow-up care, health education, and clinical support forundergraduate and graduate students.

This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week, typicallyscheduled over five days. Hours include one weekday evening.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provides telephone and walk-in triage for students with urgentand routine health concerns, using nursing assessments, establishedprotocols, standing orders, and clinical judgment to determineappropriate next steps.
• Prepares students for clinical visits, completes check-inclinical support tasks, obtains and documents vital signs and otherordered parameters, and performs point-of-care and CLIA-waivedtesting as directed.
• Administers immunizations, medications, and therapeuticinjections in accordance with approved protocols and supportsMassachusetts immunization compliance workflows, includingdocumentation and database review as assigned.
• Assist clinicians with procedures and treatments, includingEKGs, ear lavage, suture removal, crutch fitting, specimencollection, and other clinical tasks within RN scope and UHCSprotocols.
• Provides follow-up outreach after clinic visits, hospitaltransfers, emergency care, specialist visits, or abnormal testresults, and supports scheduling or care coordination needs.
• Provides student-centered health education, self-care guidance,discharge instruction, procedure preparation and aftercareeducation, and support for navigating the health care system.
• Maintains a safe and well-prepared clinical environment throughexam room turnover, supply stocking, inventory monitoring, vaccinestorage monitoring, equipment checks, and adherence to infectioncontrol standards.
• Provides clinical support, guidance, and collaboration withMedical Assistants, LPNs, RNs, providers, and administrativecolleagues to promote safe, efficient, inclusive, and coordinatedstudent care.
• Participates in quality assurance activities, staffdevelopment, peer review, team meetings, student outreachactivities, and development of educational materials for studentsand colleagues.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Massachusetts Registered Nurse licenserequired.
• Current Basic Life Support certification required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; equivalent RNexperience may be considered.
• Minimum of three years of nursing experience preferred, ideallyin ambulatory care, college health, urgent care, triage, primarycare, pediatrics, adolescent/young adult health, or a fast-pacedstudent-facing environment.
• Strong knowledge of Massachusetts immunization compliancerequirements preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records, web-based systems,and Microsoft Office applications required.
• Demonstrated ability to work inclusively and collaborativelywith domestic and international students and with a diverseinterdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated ability to perform safely while managingsequential and simultaneous responsibilities in a busy outpatientclinical setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound clinicaljudgment, professionalism, punctuality, and a proactive approach towork responsibilities required.
