Job summary

Cloudflare in the United States (New York) seeks a Staff Engineer to lead the design and evolution of our global network infrastructure. You will own capacity planning, hardware evolution, and architectural standards that keep Cloudflare ahead of growth at scale.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and drive multi-year roadmaps while balancing performance, redundancy, and cost. If you excel at complex routing and scalable systems, this role is for you.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing, operating, or planning large-scale network infrastructure at hyperscale (or equivalent).
• Proven track record building greenfield network architectures and evolving them as business needs change.
• Deep, hands-on expertise with modern routing protocols (BGP, ISIS, RSVP-TE, QoS, traffic engineering).
• Strong experience with software-defined networking, overlay networks, and programmable forwarding.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, evolution, and operational excellence of our global network infrastructure.
• Own the foundational decisions about how our network grows: capacity planning methodologies and hardware evolution strategies.
• Work with a team of engineers and architects to shape network architecture, strategies, and long‑term roadmaps.
• Proven ability to influence without authority; present technical recommendations to senior leadership.
