Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a Staff ML Infrastructure Engineer in Cupertino to define the technical direction for Apple’s ML data platform supporting large model builds.

You will own ingestion, versioning, lineage, and governance across multimodal data at petabyte scale, ensuring reproducibility and scalable training data flows. You will drive high-throughput data delivery to GPU/TPU fleets, influence platform interfaces, mentor engineers, and collaborate with data, embeddings, research, and product

Qualifications

• 10+ years in ML infrastructure, distributed data systems, or related field.
• 10+ years shipping large-scale data or ML infrastructure in production.
• Experience architecting distributed data or ML infra used by multiple teams.
• Track record of setting technical direction and delivering across teams.
• Deep systems engineering: Python plus a systems language (Rust preferred; C++/Go acceptable).
• Familiar with columnar and lakehouse formats (Parquet, Iceberg, Delta, Lance).
• Strong understanding of end-to-end ML workflows and data usage for training/inference.
• Experience with transformers, diffusion, retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning.
• Ability to mentor engineers and lead design reviews.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture of Apple’s ML data platform for large model builds.
• Define data ingestion, versioning, lineage, and governance at scale.
• Lead high-throughput data delivery to GPU/TPU fleets; optimize IO paths.
• Shape platform interfaces, contracts, and dataset abstractions.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive design reviews across teams.
• Collaborate with research, embeddings, features, and product groups.
• Drive reliability, automation, and efficiency of the data plane and control plane.
