EvenUp is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to set the technical direction for Piai™, our claims‑intelligence platform, and to lead modeling strategy across complex data in personal-injury contexts.

You'll partner with Product, Research, and Engineering leaders to drive production ML systems, mentor engineers, and raise the bar on experimentation and engineering rigor in a hyper-growth startup.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on ML engineering experience, with multiple models shipped and in production.
• Deep expertise in ML and NLP, including LLMs, with a track record of solving hard modeling problems.
• High proficiency in Python and modern ML/NLP frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to set technical strategy and drive execution in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Responsabilités

• Set technical strategy for a broad area of the ML roadmap, translating business and research goals into production-ready systems.
• Tackle hard modeling problems: long-context, multi-document understanding, and frontier challenges.
• Apply advanced ML techniques (fine-tuning, RL, retrieval) and choose appropriate methods over over-engineering.
• Establish rigorous evaluation standards, reduce hallucinations, and define what good looks like for systems.
• Drive data excellence through hands-on analysis of training/evaluation data, managing noise and drift at scale.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the ML team, raising the bar for experimentation and engineering rigor.
• Bridge research and production to ensure techniques are shipping, not just proofs of concept.
• Partner with product/engineering/legal SMEs to set technical direction.
• Scale practical ML systems cost-effectively in a hyper-growth environment grounded in business needs.
