Uber is launching AV Labs in Sunnyvale, CA, seeking a Staff ML Engineer to advance Physical AI by building autonomous data-centric systems. You will set technical direction for ML algorithms and architecture, enabling scalable data mining and semantic understanding of complex driving scenarios.

The role emphasizes mentorship, cross-organizational collaboration, and platform evolution to support rapid experimentation and deployment of foundation models for autonomous driving.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in ML/Robotics/Autonomous Systems.
• Proven experience leading large-scale technical projects from conception to production.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical roadmap and lead the delivery of state-of-the-art ML systems.
• Design and oversee the implementation of large-scale ML systems with upstream sensor data.
• Mentor senior and lead engineers and influence the technical direction across teams.
• Define requirements for high-quality datasets and auto-labeling systems.
• Bridge AV Labs with other Uber engineering units to deploy autonomy at scale.
