Job summary

Apptronik seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer to serve as the technical lead for Apollo's upper body, owning architecture, design, integration and verification of the torso, head and arms.

The role requires deep kinematic expertise and the ability to solve tight‑space packaging, high‑density compute, batteries, and perception sensors within a compact, thermally constrained frame. You will translate industrial design into high‑fidelity A‑surfaces while mentoring the team.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or Robotics; 8+ years in mechanical design of complex robotic systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and cross‑functional collaboration without direct reporting authority.
• Proven track record in Class‑A surfacing and multi‑axis robotic mechanism design.

Responsibilities

• Define the mechanical architecture for the torso, head, and arms, balancing mass, ROM, and rigidity.
• Bridge Industrial Design and Engineering to integrate ID intent into A-surfaces without compromising IP and thermal vents.
• Lead tight-space integration of compute, batteries, and sensors in the upper body; route wiring for reliability.
• Define and execute the DVT plan for the upper body and mentor engineers across teams.
