Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Minimum four years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience designing mechanical or electro‑mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and CAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices with minimal supervision.
  • Translate user needs into design specifications and deliver system-level solutions.
  • Lead prototyping and testing efforts to validate design performance.
  • Identify and resolve complex design issues using data-driven analysis to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Apply clinical knowledge to author design inputs and support Voice of Customer sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and mentor others in design control practices.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive projects from concept through launch.

Work Flexibility: Hybrid or Onsite Innovate with Purpose. Engineer for Impact. Join Stryker's Surgical Technologies R&D team as a Staff Mechanical Engineer and help develop the next generation of surgical fluid and smoke management systems. As a senior technical contributor within New Product Development, you will work across the entire product lifecycle, from concept through launch, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, safe, and compliant medical device solutions. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong mechanical design background, systems‑level thinking, and expertise in complex problem solving who is passionate about driving technical innovation, influencing product direction, and mentoring fellow engineers. This is a hybrid role based role in Portage, MI.

What You Will Do
  • Design, develop, and verify components and subsystems for medical devices with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.

  • Proficiency in creating engineering drawings and models using GD&T and CAD tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CAD tools, preferably Creo.
  • Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with risk management and quality systems in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with fluid dynamics, air filtration, fabrication and plastics.

United States of America Pay Ranges: USN: $89,300 - $148,800 USD Annual Travel Percentage: 10%

Work Flexibility
  • Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.
  • Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.
  • Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.
  • Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co‑located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
