Job summary

Shield AI seeks a Batterysystem Mechanical Lead to own all mechanical aspects of battery systems for X-BAT, Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and ground equipment. You will lead enclosure, cell packaging, integration, and release to manufacturing, enabling a vertically integrated pack design for reliability and rapid procurement.

You will mentor engineers, drive design reviews, and ensure performance through rigorous verification in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting.

Qualifications

  • You have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Battery design experience on large aircraft, or an equivalent power system (rocket, satellite, submarine, automotive, etc.)
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Have delivered battery power systems to market
  • Proficient with mechanical engineering development tools, simulation, and test equipment

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the battery system external enclosure, thermal management and environmental protection for X-BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and all ground equipment
  • Design, develop, and integrate internal component packaging and retention, harness and connector integration
  • Tolerance, assembly, and serviceability analysis
  • Ensure system performance and reliability is met through rigorous System-level shock, vibration, ingress, and thermal verification
  • Root cause investigate complex problems related to the mechanical package, environmental, manufacturing, etc.
  • Provide mentorship, design review, and program execution leadership
  • Work in a fast-paced environment

Job Description: As the Batterysystem mechanical lead, you will be responsible for all mechanical aspects of battery systems for X-BAT, the Launch and Recovery Vehicle, and ground equipment.
