Job summary

Azul is seeking a Staff Compiler Performance Engineer to set the technical direction for Falcon performance. This role focuses on optimizing the JIT compiler, leading cross-cutting transformations, and aligning the optimizer with product roadmaps.

You will mentor engineers, influence runtime and GC interfaces, and participate in LLVM upstream discussions. A strong C++ background and deep knowledge of compiler internals are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience developing optimizing or JIT compilers.
• Proven track record leading compiler components or optimization frameworks in production.
• Expert C++ skills in large, long lived codebases.
• Deep expertise in compiler optimization and code generation with tradeoffs awareness.

Responsibilities

• Define the performance strategy for Falcon: identify opportunities across benchmarks and workloads and turn into a roadmap.
• Lead design of complex, cross cutting optimizations in the optimizer and code generator, and interfaces with runtime and GC.
• Make architectural decisions on the optimization pipeline, compile time budget and tiering strategy.
• Lead enablement of Falcon on new hardware platforms and Azul products.
• Mentor senior engineers, review critical designs and code, and set performance validation standards.
• Represent Azul in the LLVM community: drive upstream design discussions and contributions.
