Join us and be part of something bigger ‑ helping to simplify health care one person, one family and one community at a time.

Position Summary

The Staff ISTS Product, Developer Experience role is a senior individual contributor responsible for product strategy, roadmap and backlog direction, technical alignment, measurable outcomes, and organizational adoption for CVS Health's Enterprise Observability Platform (EOP). Working in a highly collaborative, engineering‑led environment, this role partners with senior engineering leaders, architects, platform and cloud teams, and internal development and operations communities to reduce friction in onboarding, instrumentation, telemetry use, and incident‑response workflows while improving platform adoption, reliability and time to value. This individual is expected to operate at the staff level, influencing across multiple teams and stakeholder groups without direct authority. They contribute as a high‑trust product partner in an environment where engineering leads much of the technical direction, while raising the bar on product clarity, prioritization, validation, communication, and execution discipline. EOP is a managed, OpenTelemetry‑native platform that enables teams to collect, access, query, visualize and alert on logs, metrics and traces across enterprise environments. The Product Manager owns the product experience, adoption strategy, prioritization and measurable outcomes—not the hands‑on implementation or administration of observability infrastructure—and helps clarify integration, governance and source‑of‑truth boundaries across the broader enterprise observability ecosystem. This individual also plays an important role in strengthening product awareness, communication, sustainability and compliance across the lifecycle of the capabilities they support.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Backlog Ownership and Roadmap Strategy 20% Oversees backlog direction across multiple teams or a significant product domain, ensuring priorities align with the overall product vision, technical strategy and business goals. Shapes long‑term roadmap direction through thoughtful prioritization, balancing short‑term wins with strategic outcomes. Simplifies complex initiatives into clear, executable work and continuously adapts backlog strategy as priorities, technical realities and organizational needs change. Communicates backlog direction and sequencing decisions clearly to stakeholders and upholds a high standard of backlog quality and clarity. For EOP, prioritizes capabilities and improvements across platform onboarding, instrumentation and ingestion journeys, telemetry usability, alerting and incident workflows, platform reliability, hybrid‑environment consistency and strategic integrations.
  • Stakeholder Alignment with Engineering 20% Aligns multiple teams and stakeholder groups around product vision, priorities and execution plans. Partners closely with senior engineering leadership to co‑create strategies in which product direction and technical strategy reinforce one another. Serves as a point of escalation when priorities shift or alignment gaps emerge, helping stakeholders realign quickly and minimizing confusion or delivery churn. Communicates technical implications, trade‑offs and product needs clearly across engineering, product, operations and executive audiences. Establishes shared product outcomes, integration expectations and clear capability boundaries with application, platform, cloud, operations, security and adjacent observability teams, including decisions involving telemetry ownership, authoritative sources, coexistence and migration.
  • Technical Fluency and Platform Partnership 15% Engages deeply in technical discussions with senior engineers and architects and understands the trade‑offs and nuances of platform and developer‑facing product decisions. Brings a product perspective to OpenTelemetry‑based instrumentation and ingestion, logs, metrics and traces, telemetry pipelines, dashboards and querying, alerting and incident workflows, and cloud or Kubernetes platform dependencies. Understands these concepts well enough to evaluate product implications and partner credibly with engineers and architects; hands‑on configuration, administration, coding or operation of observability systems is not required. Helps shape technical initiatives that unlock new product capabilities, balances innovation with practical risk management and supports stronger technical fluency across the broader product organization.
  • Execution, Delivery and Operating Scale 15% Drives strong execution across multiple initiatives by improving planning, communication and delivery practices that support scale and reliability. Makes timely, high‑judgment decisions to keep work moving when teams face ambiguity, trade‑offs, or delivery risk. Helps establish and improve processes that enable better cross‑team planning, release readiness, prioritization and accountability. Defines product‑level readiness, rollout, dependency and adoption criteria for EOP capabilities, and uses service‑health, customer‑impact and operational evidence to inform prioritization and learning. Balances near‑term delivery expectations with long‑term product and platform sustainability, including pushing back on shortcuts that create unacceptable technical debt, operational instability or user experience compromises.
  • Customer Empathy and Validation 10% Serves as a strong advocate for application developers, platform teams, SREs, on‑call responders and operational users by understanding current workflow pain points and emerging needs. Evaluates the full journey from discovery and onboarding through instrumentation, visualization, troubleshooting, alerting and ongoing use. Helps establish and reinforce discovery and validation practices that ensure strategic initiatives are grounded in evidence, feedback and real usage patterns. Uses user insight, workflow observation, feedback loops and product data to validate direction, refine priorities and support larger product bets with rigor.
  • Strategic Influence and Product Evangelism 10% Contributes meaningfully to the vision and strategy for the product domain by identifying emerging opportunities, anticipating shifts in developer needs and helping the organization look beyond incremental improvement. Builds awareness, understanding and adoption of EOP through strong product communication, storytelling and stakeholder engagement. Develops and executes an adoption and enablement strategy that makes EOP easier to discover, onboard to and use, while communicating when EOP complements, integrates with or differs from adjacent enterprise capabilities. Ensures the product narrative is accessible to both technical and leadership audiences and clarifies how the product contributes to broader organizational goals and outcomes.
  • Sustainability and Compliance 10% Partners with Engineering, Security, Compliance, Legal and Infrastructure stakeholders to support strategic initiatives that improve resilience, security, operational integrity and responsible lifecycle management. Supports the adoption of reusable frameworks, patterns and planning practices that help teams meet compliance and sustainability needs efficiently. Incorporates telemetry governance, access, retention, signal quality, cost awareness, security, privacy, platform service health and responsible lifecycle management into product priorities and decisions. Helps ensure the capabilities under their purview are managed responsibly across readiness, change control, maintenance and long‑term evolution. Surfaces cross‑team patterns, risks and opportunities that improve sustainable product operations across the organization.
Required Skills
  • 8+ years of experience in Product Management, Technical Product Management, or a closely related product role, including ownership of complex digital, platform, infrastructure‑adjacent or developer‑facing products.
  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience defining product strategy, outcomes, roadmaps and backlog priorities for a technically complex platform or shared enterprise capability.
  • 7+ years of experience partnering with senior engineers and architects in agile or iterative development environments by understanding and translating platform architecture, telemetry and data‑flow concepts, operational constraints, dependencies, and technical trade‑offs into product decisions.
  • 7+ years of experience conducting discovery with technical users and business stakeholders, translating business needs, user feedback and technical constraints into clear product priorities, identify workflow and adoption friction, validate proposed capabilities and identifying platform‑product opportunities based on evidence.
  • 7+ years of experience defining and using product and operational measures, including adoption, active use, onboarding completion or time to value, workflow effectiveness, service health, reliability, support demand and customer feedback, to guide product direction and support internal product awareness, enablement, adoption and stakeholder engagement.
  • 7+ years of experience of strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills, including the ability to confidently translate technical complexity for executive and non‑technical audiences and communicate product rationale clearly to engineers.
  • 7+ years of experience demonstrated ability to operate effectively as a senior individual contributor and align engineering, cloud and platform, operations, security, compliance, adjacent product teams, and senior stakeholders around shared outcomes, boundaries, sequencing and decisions in an enterprise‑scale organization.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working in an engineering‑led environment where product collaborates closely with technical leads and senior engineering leadership to shape priorities and improve execution.
  • Experience aligning multiple teams or stakeholder groups around shared product strategy and execution plans.
  • Experience using developer‑centric, operational, or product metrics related to adoption, workflow efficiency, release health, or engineering productivity.
  • Experience improving planning, release, prioritization or cross‑team operating processes to support scale and reliability.
  • Experience working with enterprise‑scale engineering organizations and navigating complex stakeholder landscapes.
  • Healthcare, PBM, or enterprise technology experience is a plus.
Personal Attributes
  • Operates with strong judgment, consistency, and strategic clarity in ambiguous environments.
  • Brings a collaborative and supportive posture to an engineering‑led environment while still contributing meaningful product leadership.
  • Builds trust across organizational boundaries through preparation, transparency, and follow‑through.
  • Comfortable engaging deeply in technical discussions.
  • Balances innovation with practical risk management and long‑term sustainability.
  • Holds a high bar for product quality, execution discipline and organizational accountability without relying on formal authority.
  • Understands that strong product leadership in DevEx requires influence, validation, enablement and adoption thinking in addition to backlog and roadmap management.
  • Has the credibility and maturity to guide cross‑team alignment, surface hard trade‑offs, and support better decisions across the organization.
