Qualifications

• 8+ years of practical experience as a backend, platform, or infrastructure software engineer building scalable distributed systems.
• Tech Lead scale: proven track record operating at tech lead/staff level, owning architecture and end-to-end execution of foundational platform systems.
• Systems languages proficiency: deep fluency in Python, Go, Rust or similar.
• Architecture & networking: solid fundamentals in SOA, microservices, networking protocols, distributed state, and systems design.
• Cloud infrastructure & Kubernetes: practical experience with public cloud (GCP/AWS/Azure), Kubernetes, and multi-cloud networking.

As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will join Anthropic's Platform organization to build the foundational primitives that accelerate product development across the entire company. You will architect, ship, and scale the infrastructure and distributed systems that internal engineering teams and hundreds of thousands of external global developers depend on daily. Operating at a tech lead level, you will independently scope multi-month technical roadmaps, drive cross-organizational alignment through ambiguous problem spaces, and partner directly with AI research teams to productize cutting-edge model capabilities into production-grade systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Primitives Architecture: Design, build, and maintain high-throughput distributed platform primitives, service-oriented architectures, and developer systems that power Anthropic's internal research and external API products.
• Cross-Org Technical Leadership: Own multi-month technical initiatives from ambiguity to production; establish architectural standards, make foundational technology choices, and drive alignment across research, product, and platform teams.
• Cloud & Container Orchestration: Evolve multi-cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, Azure) and container orchestration systems (Kubernetes) for fault-tolerant, low-latency, global scale.
• Research Productization: Partner directly with AI research scientists to productize frontier model capabilities, inference workflows, and tooling for external developers and enterprise customers.
• Operational Excellence: Own systems end-to-end—from initial design and prototyping through deployment, observability, SLA monitoring, and production operations.
• Developer Experience (DX): Build robust, well-documented platform APIs, CLI tools, and infrastructure frameworks that internal engineers love to use.

Requirements

Distributed Systems & Platform Engineering Depth

• 8+ years of practical experience as a backend, platform, or infrastructure software engineer building scalable distributed systems.
• Tech Lead Scale: Demonstrated track record operating at a Tech Lead or Staff Engineer level, owning the technical vision, architecture, and end-to-end execution of foundational platform systems.
• Systems Languages Proficiency: Deep fluency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems programming languages.
• Architecture & Networking: Solid fundamentals in service-oriented architectures (SOA), microservices, networking protocols, distributed state, and systems design.
• Cloud Infrastructure & Kubernetes: Practical experience with public cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and multi-cloud networking.
• Ownership & Ambiguity: Proven ability to navigate 0-to-1 environments, drive technical clarity in complex problem spaces, and take full operational ownership of production systems.
• Product-Minded Infrastructure: A product-focused mindset that treats internal and external developers as primary customers, designing platform APIs that are resilient and easy to adopt.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating inside high-growth AI labs, developer tool platforms, or high-scale API infrastructure providers.
• Hands-on experience with multi-cloud deployment strategies, global traffic routing, and zero-trust service meshes.
• Track record of mentoring senior engineers and fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture.
