Job Description

The Terracon San Antonio Office is looking for a new member to join our successful and growing environmental site assessment team. Submit your application to join a truly dynamic group of individuals and achieve your growth potential with encouragement from our management team.


General Responsibilities


  • Conduct Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and Limited Site Investigations to determine presence/absence of contamination in soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water, and sediment.

  • Identify, develop, and gather the resources to complete the project. This may include preparing calculations, designs, reports, and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets, and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.

  • Conduct groundwater monitoring at permitted sites.

  • Log and classify soil following standard practices and methods.

  • Conduct geologic field mapping.

  • Evaluate and interpret subsurface field and sampling data including soil and groundwater to develop conclusions concerning the environmental and geologic site conditions.

  • Generate subsurface maps and cross-sections and collaborate with environmental/engineering staff on projects.

  • Prepare written plans and reports related to site investigation and remediation activities.

  • Participate in client meetings under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and/or Department Manager.

  • Partner with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.

  • Coordinate with Senior Staff to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for reviews of all critical junctures.

  • Coordinate with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing, and collections.


Essential Roles And Responsibilities


  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning activities.

  • Maintain quality standards on tasks performed and prepared deliverables.

  • Perform site visits, field observations, and field data collection or assignments.

  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan, and permit projects.

  • Conduct water, soil, and other sampling.

  • Implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test, and collect data and/or document site activities.

  • Outline required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or similar field. (Master's degree preferred)

  • Minimum of 3+ years of related experience.

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • This Staff Geologist position is combination of field work and in-office work.


Preferred Certification/Experience


  • Geologist-in-Training or Professional Geoscientist licensed in Texas, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of onboarding.

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

  • Geographic information systems (GIS)

  • Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Working knowledge of RCRA, TRRP, and PST regulations in Texas.

  • Working knowledge of TCEQ landfills rules such as Subchapter T.

  • Documented success with TCEQ reports (such as APARs, RDRs, and ARFs) and closures under TCEQ programs such as the PST, TRRP, IOP, and VCP.
