Job summary

Haley & Aldrich is seeking a Staff Geologist 2 to join a technical support team in San Diego, CA. The role involves field investigations, site characterization, and data-driven analysis on diverse projects for multiple clients.

Qualifying candidates will have a Bachelor’s in Earth Science with 5+ years of experience, proficiency in Python/MATLAB, ArcGIS, and geologic modeling tools such as Petrel and MODFLOW. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science or related field.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Expertise in DFOS environmental monitoring.
• Signal and data processing with Python and MATLAB.
• Geospatial analysis and machine learning.
• Geologic modeling with Petrel.
• Hydrogeologic modeling with MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, PHREEQC.
• GIS experience with ArcGIS.
• Academic training in structural geology and sequence stratigraphy.
• Strong technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time management.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
• Willingness to travel to work locations with overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Independently conduct field investigations and assessments of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, etc.
• Use field results to support site characterization.
• Conduct basic construction observation and field testing tasks.
• Support field data organization, reduction, and synthesis.
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of field activities and data evaluation.
• Apply academic training and use software for calculations and data evaluation.
• Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
• Assist with development of scopes of work and cost estimating for proposals.
• Perform all work under Health & Safety protocols.
• Demonstrate foundational safety behaviors.

We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking aStaff Geologist 2 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is a full-time position located in ourSan Diego, CA office.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will:

• Independently conduct field investigations and assessments of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, etc., using approved industry standard procedures.
• Use the results of field investigations such as subsurface explorations, monitoring well construction, field sampling and other work to support site characterization.
• Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field testing tasks.
• Support field data organization, reduction, and synthesis.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation.
• Apply academic training and use computer software to perform calculations and evaluation of available site data.
• Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
• Assist with the development of technical scopes of work and cost estimating for proposal efforts on small- to medium-sized tasks or project opportunities.
• Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
• Demonstrate our foundational safety behaviors.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science or related field.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Expertise and experience in:
• Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) for environmental monitoring applications
• Signal and data processing using Python and MATLAB
• Machine Learning & Geospatial Analysis
• Geologic modeling using Petrel
• Hydrogeologic modeling using MODFLOW, Groundwater Vistas, PHREEQC
• GIS experience using ArcGIS
• Academic training in structural geology and stratigraphy, including sequence stratigraphy
• Proficient technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time-management skills.
• Able to work independently or with minimal direction in performing tasksand assignments under the direction of senior staff.
• Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365 software.
• Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
• Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.

Preferred Skills:

• Master’s degree in Geology or related field.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.

The salary range for this position inSan Diego, CA is $75,000 - $90,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
