Geologist – Los Angeles, CA
We are seeking a Geologist to join our team in Los Angeles, CA.
Responsibilities
- Work on seismic research projects and provide technical support to multidisciplinary teams.
- Analyze and review seismic data using advanced software tools and methodologies.
- Develop and refine seismic hazard models for various regions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate seismic data into broader geoscience studies.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree.
- 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in geophysics, engineering, or geology.
- Understanding of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis with strong background in probability and statistics.
- Programming skills in Python, Matlab, or R.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedures, regulations, and technical information.
- Teamwork skills and creative problem‑solving.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- Independent work ability with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of site response analysis and/or tsunami hazards.
- Knowledge of seismic source and strong ground motion characteristics (e.g., stress drop, path parameters such as crustal attenuation and kappa).
- Programming in Fortran or C.
- Effective presentation skills to stakeholders.
- Learning new software for communication and project management.
- Research experience funded by NEHRP or publications in peer‑reviewed journals such as Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America or Earthquake Spectra.
Additional Information
- Relocation is not available for this role.
- Occasional site travel required.
- Salary range: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 (based on location and qualifications).
