Job summary

ALSO is seeking a Staff Geartrain Design Engineer to support transmission component design for next generation light electric vehicles. Based in Silicon Valley, you will design geartrain components, model performance, and ensure lubrication and load ratings meet reliability goals.

You will bring geartrain design experience from concept through production ramp, knowledge of rotating machinery, and proficiency in CAD/3D modeling as well as MATLAB or Python.

Qualifications

• Geartrain design and analysis experience from concept to production ramp.
• Experience in rotating machinery design including gears, bearings, tribology analysis.
• Strong knowledge of statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials.
• Experience with finite element analysis for stress, strain, and modal response.

• Geartrain component design of rotating shafts, torque split devices, couplings, and clutches
• Geartrain modeling to evaluate geartrain noise, efficiency, durability, reliability
• Spline sizing and load rating
• Bearing load analysis and life rating
• Establish bearing and gear mesh lubrication requirements
• Establish gear mesh and bearing alignment requirements
• 2D and 3D modeling utilizing CAD software
• Statistical analysis for component stack-up
• Component level testing for performance, durability, reliability, and variability
• Geartrain component quality troubleshooting resulting in supplier corrective action

• Geartrain modeling to evaluate geartrain noise, efficiency, durability, reliability
• Spline sizing and load rating
• Bearing load analysis and life rating

What You Will Bring

• Prior geartrain design and analysis experience from concept through production ramp
• Experience in rotating machinery design including gears, bearings, and tribology analysis
• Strong fundamental knowledge of statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials
• Geartrain system modeling experience utilizing Romax, Masta, Transmission3D, KissSoft or equivalent
• Proficiency in 3D modeling and product lifecycle management (PLM). Catia preferred but not required
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent programming language
• Strong fundamental understanding of material properties, heat treatment, and gear manufacturing methods
• Experience with finite element analysis for evaluating stress, strain, and modal response

The salary for this position ranges from $170,000 – $235,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
