Job summary

The Nuclear Company seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead NOS module builds and web applications for the nuclear industry. You will report to the Senior Director of Product Engineering and set engineering standards for the squad.

You will write production code, mentor engineers, and partner with stakeholders to turn operational needs into reliable software for one of the largest nuclear buildouts in the United States.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of production software experience at senior or staff level.
• Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Experience shipping end-to-end software from requirements to execution.
• Strong front- and back-end web development skills.
• Experience with at least one major cloud (AWS preferred) and modern CI/CD.
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to solve business problems.
• Experience with modern agentic frameworks and rigorous testing.

About The Role

The Nuclear Company is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to lead the build of NOS modules and applications. You will report to the Senior Director of Product Engineering and work in the Product Engineering team. NOS is the software platform behind one of the largest nuclear buildouts in the United States, and this is a senior technical role that sets the standard for how the products get built. Your role will be to build web applications that combine the best of human and agentic capabilities to safely and quickly build nuclear power plants.

This is a hands-on staff-level role. You will design and build NOS web applications, make the hard architecture calls, and raise the engineering standard for the squad. You work with platform engineers on the layers underneath and with product engineers building alongside you.

You will write production code, lead design and code reviews, mentor other engineers, and partner with business line stakeholders to turn operational needs into working software. When something is hard or stuck, you are the engineer who drives it to a decision.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead the technical build. Design and build web applications that are the foundation for safe and fast nuclear development
• Own the hard architecture decisions.
• Lead design and code reviews, define patterns and practices, and raise code quality across the squad.
• Create applications that are used to both plan and build nuclear power plants.
• Build with business stakeholders. Work directly with business line owners to turn operational and regulatory needs into working software.
• Mentor and multiply. Coach other engineers, unblock them, and grow the technical depth of the team.

Required Experience

• 8+ years building and shipping production software, with a track record at senior or staff level.
• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent production experience.
• Demonstrated experience shipping end to end software applications, starting from eliciting business requirements through execution
• Deep skills that cut across both front and backend of modern web development
• Experience with at least one major cloud (AWS preferred) and modern CI/CD.
• Ability to partner with stakeholders to solve the business problem not just the engineering problem at hand
• Experience shipping high quality code with modern agentic frameworks (e.g. Claude Code); Commitment to rigorous testing to ensure applications work as expected
• Demonstrated ability to learn adjacent skills on the fly as needed for projects.

Preferred Experience

• Strong preference for experience deploying agents in production which are governed by clear, actionable, and defensible measurement frameworks
• Experience building software with agentic software factories
• Experience in a regulated or safety-critical industry (nuclear, aerospace, defense, energy, medical).
• Experience with IoT/OT integration or computer vision.
• Experience with Palantir

Estimated Starting Salary Range

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $166,000 - $224,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company's discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
