Job description

Position Overview

Entrust is seeking a Staff Firmware Engineer to work within our product development team. The role focuses on firmware for systems that print and personalize credit cards, passports, driver’s licenses, national IDs and more.

Responsibilities
  • Design and architecture of system firmware for embedded controller systems.
  • Design, develop, code, test, debug, implement and document embedded firmware components or applications.
  • Develop firmware for digital, analog, RF, power, and motion control systems.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, hardware/software integration and development testing.
  • Collaborate on design trade-offs in a team environment.
  • Communicate status to management, peers, and team members.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies, practices and standards.
  • Continuously improve work processes for team efficiencies.
  • Resolve product issues through code modifications, testing and coordination with support teams.
  • Create product enhancements from requirements with emphasis on system-wide benefit, risk impact, iterative design and testing.
Basic Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience with embedded software, hardware or firmware in a product development environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent technical degree.
  • Extensive experience (6+ years) with C++ and/or C in an embedded development environment.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, VxWorks or other embedded real‑time operating systems.
  • Experience with Yocto Project/OpenEmbedded for Linux system development.
  • Experience with development processes, methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with revision control systems such as Subversion or Git.
  • Experience with unit and integration test methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and engineering judgment skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to prepare written specifications.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization for the US.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience in Linux kernel development.
  • Experience in motor control, smartcard technology, color printing technology, RFID technology, security concepts (encryption, PKI, vulnerability mitigation), laser control, networking protocols, scripting languages.
  • Proficiency using AI tools to assist with code generation, analysis, documentation and scripting.
  • Ability to work autonomously with cross‑functional team members.
Location and Work Arrangement

This role requires five days in the office for the first six months, then the option to transition to a hybrid schedule of three days per week onsite in Minneapolis, MN. Entrust operates with a distributed workforce.

Compensation

Anticipated starting base pay: $129,650–$190,153 per year (base) in the primary posting location. Compensation will be determined based on geographic location, education, skills and experience. The position is eligible for the company’s discretionary annual incentive plan.
