Job summary

Applied Research Associates (ARA) is seeking a hands-on construction and fabrication specialist to support field testing at AMR near Moriarty, NM, with additional work at Kirtland Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range.

The role involves fabricating test articles, welding, carpentry, machining, concrete placements, heavy equipment operations, surveying, plumbing, electrical mechanics, and pneumatics, plus reading blueprints and supporting data collection.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in the general construction field or equivalent.
  • Experience with fabrication of test articles and field support.
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (loaders, forklifts) and use hand/power tools.

Job description

Applied Research Associates (ARA) is looking for an individual to support field testing with the engineering/scientific staff at ARA’s Moriarty Range (AMR), located east of Moriarty, NM. Additional work locations include Kirtland Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range. The candidate will support fabrication of structures and test articles, which include welding/cutting, carpentry, machining, concrete placements, heavy equipment operations, surveying, plumbing, electrical mechanics, and pneumatics. Must work well in a team environment and provide innovative feedback and problem solving to teams of engineers and technicians.

The successful candidate should have a background in general construction/metal fabrication with hands on experience in various machining equipment such as lathes, milling machines, bandsaws, heavy equipment operations (loaders, forklifts), hand tools, power tools, and welding. Duties will include fabrication of test articles, test site preparation, test conduction and data collection, general clean up, and general test support setup.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance
  • Problem Solving and Communication Skills
  • US citizenship is required
  • Pretest and post-test survey documentation
  • Able to wear and pass fit test for powered air purifying, half-face, and full-face respirators
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers/coworkers
  • Lift at least 50 lbs
  • Ability to pull/back-up a trailer
  • Ability to understand and follow hand signals
  • Ability to see a task through to completion
  • Willingness to learn new skills and abilities

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Critical thinking and the ability to employ best solution practices
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Minimum of 2 years in the general construction field or equivalent
  • Operation of heavy equipment
  • Machining capabilities (ability to learn)
  • Welding (ability to learn and obtain certification)
  • Carpentry skills/metal fabrication/mechanical skills

  • Electrical code work experience and knowledge or journeyman licensure
  • OSHA training
  • 50T Crane operation (ability to obtain certification)
  • Survey experience
  • CDL
