Job summary

Stantec’s Mountain Region is seeking a Staff Engineer/Geologist/Scientist for Environmental Services. Based in Fort Collins or Denver, CO, you will perform field and office tasks on environmental site assessments, due diligence and remediation projects, including data collection, subcontractor oversight, data interpretation, and deliverable preparation.

You will travel to field sites, work outdoors, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • BS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related Earth Sciences.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred; willingness to obtain if not current.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate field activities and subcontractors.
  • Perform field work including Phase I ESA site visits, groundwater sampling, drilling oversight, soil logging, and asbestos inspections.
  • Prepare technical documents for review by senior staff.
  • Represent Stantec with clients, property owners, subcontractors and stakeholders on field assignments.
  • Adhere to established practices, standards and safety guidelines.
  • Complete required health and safety trainings including OSHA training.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Mountain Region is looking for a Staff Engineer/Geologist/Scientist for our Environmental Services Group. This position will be based out of our Fort Collins or Denver, CO offices. The candidate for this role is intended to perform field and office tasks associated with environmental site assessments, due diligence, and remediation projects. The opportunity will include data collection; oversight of subcontractors; data interpretation/evaluation; and deliverable preparation.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate field activities and subcontractors (such as with laboratories, private locators, and drillers);
  • Perform field work (under the direct supervision or guidance of more experienced personnel), which may include Phase I ESA site visits, groundwater sampling, drilling oversight, soil logging, soil sample collection, and asbestos building inspections;
  • Prepare technical documents for review by more experienced personnel;
  • Represent Stantec by interacting in a professional manner with clients, property owners, subcontractors, and other relevant stakeholders while on field assignments;
  • Demonstrate sound application of established practices, standards and guidelines;
  • Complete applicable company- and client-required health and safety trainings (including OSHA required training); and
  • Strict adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient in policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.
  • Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, good work ethic, and a passion for high quality workmanship.
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods of time in remote locations.
  • Ability to work outside during adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to write technical documents.
  • Willingness to build and maintain a productive professional networking relationship within their technical team.
  • Experience in data collection and report preparation related to due diligence, site assessment, and remediation.
  • Willingness and an ability to travel and stay overnight;
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
  • Prior to employment, this position may require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Education and Experience

BS in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Sciences or related Earth Sciences;

Minimum 3-5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred is preferred. If not current, the willingness to obtain the training is required.

Majority of time spent will be a combination of field work and office work, with the potential for prolonged sitting and computer work.

Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas - $64,400.00 - $93,300.00 Annually
Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
