Job summary

Northrop Grumman in Azusa, CA is seeking a Staff Systems Modeling and Simulation engineer to support the DSP, MTA, and DOMES programs. You will work with DoD/IC customers to enhance missile warning and defense capabilities using OPIR assets.

The position is full-time, on-site at the Azusa facility, with responsibilities spanning modeling, analysis, and system-of-systems performance improvements. A TS/SCI clearance is required to begin work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 12+ years of relevant work experience, OR a Master’s degree with 10 years, OR a PhD with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance at time of application.
  • Missile/threat domain experience with knowledge of 6DOF modeling and phenomenologies.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tool baselines using MATLAB, Python, and STK.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely detailed assessment of events observed via OPIR sensors and offer recommendations.
  • Conduct mission event performance assessments for operational systems.
  • Perform sensor constellation and mission performance studies with optimization recommendations.
  • Provide Activity Reports and data file changes as needed.
  • Deliver threat profile briefings and recommendations to USSPACECOM and IC partners.
  • Deliver technical briefings and modeling & simulation analysis packages.
  • Maintain and enhance existing modeling capabilities for the Mission Threat Analysis team.

The Northrop Grumman's Azusa, California campus is currently seeking a Staff Systems Modeling and Simulation engineer to support the development and execution of our ongoing support for the Missile Warning and Missile Defense portfolio. This position will be responsible for working within the Defense Support Program (DSP) Operations, Mission Threat Analysis (MTA) and Engineering Sustainment (DOMES) Contract. They will communicate and collaborate with customers across the Department of War and Intelligence Community and key advisory organizations (FFRDCs, UARCs, etc.) to enable and enhance our current capabilities in providing missile warning and defense with our Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) assets. This person will integrate Northrop Grumman capabilities into those workflows and products, and drive the development of new solutions for our operational users and the warfighter.

This position is expected to be located at our Azusa, CA facility and is a full‑time on‑site assignment.

Job Scope And Responsibilities
  • Provide timely detailed assessment of events observed via OPIR Sensors and offer recommendations to optimize mission systems against evolving threats.
  • Conduct mission event performance assessments (technical intelligence, battlespace characterization) for operational and proposed systems.
  • Perform sensor constellation and mission performance studies and provide recommendations to optimize system and system of systems performance.
  • Provide Activity Reports and Profile/Area of Interest data files or recommended changes to files
  • Provide threat profile performance briefings and recommendations to USSPACECOM, Intelligence Community, & FFRDCs
  • Deliver technical briefings and modeling & simulation analysis packages.
  • Maintain and enhance existing modeling and simulation capabilities for the Mission Threat Analysis team via feature updates, or deficiency mitigations.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 12 or more years of relevant work experience, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM field with 10 years of experience, OR a PhD in a STEM field with 8 years of relevant experience
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI Clearance at time of application
  • Missile and other threat domain experience experience, understanding of 6DOF behavioral modeling and phenomenologies (Infrared, Radar, Other).
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tool baselines using a tool stack including but not limited to MATLAB, Python, and Systems Tool Kit (STK)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with pointing and control flight software constructs such as onboard attitude propagation and calibration, motor control, and anomaly, diagnostic, and resolution applications.
  • Professional experience with applied mathematics for embedded systems and numerical error analysis.
  • Technical understanding in LOS calibration techniques and working knowledge of Kalman filtering and least squares estimation techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and object-oriented programming.
  • Understanding of payload operations in relation to OPIR.
  • Familiarity with commonly used tools in both MS Windows & Unix environments.

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
