Job description

About Quince

Founded in 2018, Quince was built to challenge the idea that nice things have to cost a lot. Our mission is simple: to make really high-quality essentials for really low prices, produced fairly and sustainably. We believe everyone deserves exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design without the traditional markups. Quince is a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model that cuts out middlemen and leverages just-in-time manufacturing to minimize waste and maximize value.

Quince is a tech company disrupting the retail industry by putting AI, analytics and automation at the center of everything we do. Our unwavering commitment to excellence and company values guide our teams and actions:

  • Customer First: We prioritize customer satisfaction in every decision.
  • High Quality: True quality means premium materials and rigorous production standards you can feel good about.
  • Essential Design: We focus on timeless, functional essentials instead of chasing trends.
  • Always a Better Deal: Innovation and transparency ensure value for both customers and partners.
  • Social & Environmental Responsibility: We commit to sustainable materials, ethical production, and fair wages.

Quince partners with world-class manufacturers across the globe and serves millions of customers. With strong investor backing and a focus on sustainable growth, we are a company that is rapidly scaling while maintaining a commitment to quality, simplicity, and radical price transparency.

At Quince, you will be part of a high-performing team that is redefining what quality, value, and sustainability mean in modern retail. We are a destination for builders, innovators, and operators to come together and challenge the status quo. Our collective ambition is bold. We are creating an entirely new category and customer experience – one that democratizes luxury and provides high quality products at radically low prices. That mission demands a world-class team committed to excellence. If you are motivated by impact, growth, and purpose, you will find a strong sense of belonging at Quince.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone with a high degree of passion for building high-quality, scalable storefront experiences and a strong understanding of how modern web systems work end-to-end. They are a self-starter, problem-solver, and adept at combining technology and data into best-in-class outcomes. The candidate is energized by solving complex technical and business problems, and consistently effective in making high-judgment decisions at a rapid pace amidst ambiguity. They lead by influence, raise the bar for the engineers around them, and thrive in an environment where candour, speed, and data are highly valued.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end technical design and delivery for major Storefront initiatives – spanning discovery, browse, PDP, cart, checkout, and post-purchase surfaces – from architecture through production.
  • Partner closely with product, design, and data science to shape roadmap priorities and translate business goals into scalable, well-scoped engineering plans.
  • Drive technical standards and consistency across the Storefront codebase in areas including performance, observability, testing, and maintainability.
  • Proactively identify and resolve systemic engineering gaps – performance bottlenecks, reliability risks, and scaling constraints – before they become incidents.
  • Mentor and grow senior engineers through design reviews, code review, pairing, and direct coaching; actively invest in the technical development of the team.
  • Define and drive adoption of best practices across frontend architecture, API design, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure the Storefront stack is built on reliable, well-instrumented foundations.
  • Drive alignment with engineering leadership and cross-functional counterparts on technical direction, tradeoffs, and delivery milestones.
Experience Required
  • Excellent computer science fundamentals.
  • 8+ years of full-stack web development experience, with deep expertise in building high-traffic, customer-facing commerce or consumer web surfaces.
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and React; experience with server-side rendering frameworks (Next.js or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Experience building and maintaining highly reliable distributed web applications that operate at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive large technical initiatives end-to-end: scoping, sequencing work, aligning stakeholders, and landing impact across quarters.
  • Track record of raising engineering quality on a team – through standards, tooling, documentation, or mentorship – not just shipping features.
  • Knowledge of design principles, fundamentals of frontend and distributed system architecture, quality processes, and estimation techniques.
  • Experience with A/B testing frameworks and data-driven experimentation.
  • Advocate for maintaining the highest standards in terms of code quality, latency, and observability.
  • Understanding of the hustle of a startup and ability to handle ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Curious, quick learner, scrappy, and someone who loves to experiment.
