Job summary

Snap Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead Storage and Caching infrastructure in Bellevue, WA. You will define multi-year roadmaps, design scalable backend systems, and mentor engineers, across AWS and GCP environments, focused on reliability, performance, and operational excellence.

The role combines hands-on leadership with architecture across critical services, including storage, caching, user and relationship services, while driving AI-enabled improvements at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 9+ years of software development experience; or a Master’s degree and 8+ years; or a PhD and 5+ years.
• Experience a technical lead, domain expert, or owner of complex technical initiatives.
• Experience building and operating backend systems or distributed systems in production environments.
• Experience leading architecture or platform direction beyond an individual team, with demonstrated influence across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-quarter and multi-year roadmaps for storage, caching, and related infrastructure.
• Design, build, and operate foundational backend infrastructure with focus on reliability and performance.
• Act as hands-on Staff-level tech lead, driving initiatives from concept to rollout.
• Partner with engineers and leaders across teams to align on direction and priorities.
• Improve developer and operator experience by creating durable systems and abstractions.
• Drive best practices for reliability, observability, incident response, and cost efficiency.
• Mentor and uplift other engineers and resolve technical conflicts across teams.
• Explore AI opportunities to improve platform quality and productivity.
