Job description

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate, and advance faster than ever.

We are seeking a self-motivated, team-oriented board design engineer to develop Micron’s next-generation Solid State Drive (SSD) products. This role requires experience in hardware architecture, design, testing, signal integrity, and power supply design. Key responsibilities include modeling and simulation for high-speed signaling and power supply design, including power distribution network (PDN) simulations. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of state-of-the-art memory device technologies, interfaces such as SATA, SAS, PCIe Gen 4 & 5, ONFI, and implementation techniques for high-speed interfaces. Additionally, experience with Buck and boost power supply designs, PCB design tools (Cadence PCB design and analysis, including Si/Pi), and expertise in signal and power integrity are essential. Hands-on lab experience and a thorough understanding of hardware development methodologies are required to ensure first-pass design success.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Document and communicate results with cross-functional teams.
  2. Interface with firmware, diagnostic, and system-level teams to ensure design compliance.
  3. Participate in architecture definition, design reviews, and requirements generation for SSD products.
  4. Design and architect SSD platforms with custom controllers, NAND, and DRAM for cost-sensitive products.
  5. Design and architect power systems tailored for cost-sensitive SSD products.
  6. Simulate and analyze design proposals, review results, and recommend best practices.
  7. Use schematic capture and design constraints with Cadence PCB tools.
  8. Run SPICE simulations for all power systems.
  9. Conduct worst-case analysis, simulations, and de-rating.
  10. Design with an understanding of high-speed interface signal integrity behavior.
  11. Define PCB stack-up, via technologies, part placement, and set design constraints, including signal and power integrity analysis.
  12. Design hardware suitable for large-scale manufacturing, considering DFx and cost factors.
  13. Define test plans for Power Management ICs and power systems verification.
  14. Specify test equipment and procedures for hardware verification, including RMA processes.
  15. Perform basic signal and power integrity measurements and testing.
  16. Develop scripts and automation for temperature-based testing and margin analysis.
  17. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design meets all requirements.
  18. Proactively work during design, verification, and RMA stages.
  19. Mentor and provide technical guidance to hardware team members.
  20. Modify existing and develop new test procedures to improve coverage.
Critical Skills
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to lead SSD hardware projects to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Expertise in analog power system design at the board level.
  • Solid understanding of transmission line fundamentals and frequency vs. time domain.
  • Deep knowledge of circuit design and semiconductor technology.
  • Extensive PCB design experience with high-speed signals, power routing, and EMI/ESD protection.
  • Proficiency in designing for signal integrity, including SerDes, power, and interconnects.
  • Creative problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges.
  • Strong analog design skills using simulation tools like SPICE.
  • Hands-on experience with design tools such as Cadence, Allegro, Sigrity, and Mentor Graphics HyperLynx.
  • Practical lab experience with high-bandwidth measurements (20-35GHz).
  • Knowledge of PCIe compliance testing equipment.
  • Understanding of margining techniques for verification.
  • Experience developing automation scripts (e.g., Python) for hardware testing.
  • Practical skills with soldering, microscopy, and hardware troubleshooting.
Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant hardware design and validation experience.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
