French & Parrello Associates (FPA) invites an entry-level Staff Engineer to join the Municipal Services Department at our Wall Township, NJ headquarters. You will contribute to planning, design, and permitting for municipal infrastructure while growing your career in a leading NE engineering firm.

The role emphasizes collaboration, field work, and design using AutoCAD Civil 3D, with opportunities to engage in reports, grants, and client coordination across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • EIT certification preferred or obtainable within 6 months.
  • 0–2 years in municipal, civil/site, transportation, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Office, and engineering design software.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design principles and codes/regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; team-oriented with multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, design, and preparation of plans, specs, reports, and cost estimates for municipal projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations for grading, stormwater, drainage, water/ sewer systems, and roadway design.
  • Prepare permit applications and coordinate with multiple agencies.
  • Support project managers in delivery, scheduling, budgeting, and client communications.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observations.
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and other software to prepare design documents.
  • Assist in technical reports, feasibility studies, and grant applications.
  • Coordinate with environmental, transportation, geotechnical, and water resources teams.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and support construction administration.

Staff Engineer – Municipal Services

Responsibilities

  • Prepare permit applications and coordinate with local, county, state, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support project managers in project delivery, scheduling, budgeting, and client communications.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observations as needed.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software to prepare design documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, feasibility studies, and grant applications.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines including environmental, transportation, geotechnical, landscape architecture, and water resources teams.
  • Review contractor submittals, respond to requests for information (RFIs), and support construction administration activities.
  • Participate in client meetings, public presentations, and stakeholder coordination efforts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 0–2 years of experience in municipal, civil/site, transportation, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office Suite, and engineering design software.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design principles and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple assignments.

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $77,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, qualifications, and skill set. FPA recognizes and rewards performance through an annual bonus program.
