Job summary

Western Alliance Bank in Dallas, TX is seeking a Staff Engineer II - Business Intelligence to design, develop, and support enterprise data solutions, leading data engineering and platform architecture across Microsoft Fabric, Azure, and cloud-based data services.

You will build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, and analytics frameworks, collaborate with business and IT teams, follow SDLC and governance, and help drive AI-enabled data initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or a related role.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern cloud-based data platforms.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent certifications and experience.
  • Experience with Mortgage, Banking, or Financial Services domains is a plus.
  • Expert-level SQL, data modeling, and performance optimization.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, OneLake, Data Factory, Spark, Fabric administration).
  • Proficiency with Azure cloud data engineering and modern data architectures.
  • Core to intermediate proficiency with C#/.NET and OOP.
  • Familiarity with Change Management, SDLC, CI/CD, DevOps tools (ADO, Git).
  • Ability to design new solutions from scratch and clarify complex requirements.
  • Interest in AI tools (Copilot) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with VBA, PowerShell, or CLI scripting is a plus.
  • Microsoft Fabric/Azure Certifications are highly preferred.

Job Title: Staff Engineer II - Business Intelligence

Location: TX - Dallas/Irving

What you'll do:
  • As a Staff Engineer II, this role serves as a technical expert responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data solutions. It provides advanced expertise in enterprise data engineering and platform architecture, ensuring solutions are secure, compliant, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • The position leads the design, development, and optimization of enterprise data solutions, including Microsoft Fabric, data integration, analytics, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise data platforms leveraging Microsoft Fabric, Azure, and related cloud technologies.
  • Design, develop, and optimize Lakehouse, OneLake, Data Factory, Spark, and SQL-based solutions supporting enterprise analytics and operational workloads.
  • Build and optimize scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, and reporting frameworks supporting critical business functions.
  • Collaborate directly with Business, IT teams, and Vendors to develop solution requirements.
  • Embrace and follow detailed Change Management and SDLC standards and protocols, and contribute to their improvement.
  • Produce and maintain related documentation, respond to audit and compliance requests.
  • Develop technical and Business subject matter expertise, and provide support to peers and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives involving AI, Copilot, advanced analytics, and cloud‑native data solutions.
What you'll need:
  • 7+ years professional experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or similar role.
  • Proven hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric and modern cloud‑based data platforms.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of professional certifications and relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with or an interest in Mortgage, Banking, and Financial Services fields is a plus.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, data modeling, database design, and performance optimization.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, OneLake, Data Factory, Spark, Semantic Models, and Fabric administration.
  • Strong proficiency in cloud data engineering using Azure services and modern data architectures.
  • Core to intermediate proficiency with C#/.NET application development, and OOP.
  • Proficiency with Change Management, SDLC, CI/CD, DevOps (ADO), Version Control (Git), etc. tools and best practices.
  • Ability to build new solutions based on existing code, and design new solutions from scratch.
  • Ability to understand, clarify, and design Business, Functional, and Technical Requirements.
  • Experience with or an interest in AI tools (Copilot), etc. is a plus.
  • Proficiency with VBA, CLI (PowerShell, cmd) is a plus.
  • Microsoft Certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Engineering, Azure Solutions Architecture, or related cloud technologies are highly preferred.
