Shield AI is redefining autonomous aviation and seeking a Staff Electromechanical Engineer in San Diego to lead avionics packaging and integration from concept to production. You will drive cross-functional collaboration and own designs through reviews and flight-test readiness.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in aerospace mechanical/electrical design, CAD (NX/SolidWorks/CATIA), and eCAD tools (Altium, Cadence, Allegro, Capital, Zuken). Security clearance is desirable.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing mechanical and electrical aerospace equipment.
• Experience with harness integration and mechanical components.
• Expertise in 3D CAD for layout, drawings and packaging.
• Collaboration with electrical engineers on PCB constraints and interfaces.
• Familiarity with PCB layout and advanced manufacturing methods.
• Experience with eCAD tools and harness design software.
• Finite element and thermal analysis experience.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, Agile environments and security clearance is desired.

Responsibilities

• Design complex electromechanical solutions for avionics packaging and interconnects.
• Perform structural, thermal, and modal analyses to ensure survivability.
• Ensure compliance with DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461.
• Own design from concept through reviews, validation, and flight-test readiness.

We are looking for a Staff Electromechanical Engineer to join our team, focused on the design and integration of avionics systems and driving designs from concept to production. What you'll do

• Design complex electromechanical solutions for avionics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration
• Perform structural, preliminary thermal, and modal analyses for avionics to ensure survivability in harsh environments
• Ensure avionics meet performance, safety, environmental, and EMI/EMC compliance standards, including DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461
• Own your design work from concept and design reviews through system validation, failure analysis, and flight-test readiness

Required qualifications

• B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in mechanical and electrical equipment design for aerospace, including harness integration and mechanical component design
• Expertise in CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar tools for 3D modeling, drawing creation, and system layout
• Experience collaborating with electrical engineers to define PCB constraints, develop circuit cards, and manage all mechanical interfaces
• Familiarity with the PCB layout process and advanced manufacturing methods
• Familiarity with eCAD software such as Altium, Cadence, or Allegro and harness design software such as Capital or Zuken
• Experience with finite element analysis, thermal analysis, and fatigue or lifecycle testing
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, agile development environment with evolving priorities
• Ability to obtain an S//SAR-level security clearance is desired

$142,000 - $220,000 a year
