Job summary

Shield AI seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to design electro-mechanical solutions for high voltage power electronics packaging and aircraft integration in a fast-paced defense-tech environment.

You will own designs from concept to verification, collaborating with electrical engineers and PCB designers to ensure system integrity and compliance with DO-160, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461. Seattle-based, full-time role with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with CAD/NX/SolidWorks/CATIA for 3D modeling and system layout.
• Exposure to electrical interfaces and PCB constraints with engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design complex electro-mechanical solutions for high voltage power electronics packaging and aircraft integration.
• Own design work from concept to implementation, including system verification and validation.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and PCB designers to meet product demands.
• Conduct analyses to ensure survivability in harsh environments (thermal, structural, vibration).
• Ensure avionics meet applicable standards (DO-160/DO-254/DO-178C/MIL-STD-810/MIL-STD-461).

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Design complex electro-mechanical solutions for high voltage power electronics packaging, electrical interconnects, thermal management, and aircraft integration
• Execute analysis to ensure survivability in harsh environments. Such as structural, thermal, vibration, clearances, and PCBA hardening
• Ensure avionics meet performance, safety, environmental, and EMI/EMC compliance standards, including DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461
• Own your design work from concept to implementation, through system verification and validation
• Collaborate with electrical engineer and PCB designers to sure full scope board design and packaging meets the product demands

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Strong use of CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for 3D modeling, drawing creation, and system layout.
• Familiarity with eCAD software (Altium, Cadence, Allegro), and harness design software (Capital, Zuken)
• Exposure to working with electrical engineers to define PCB constraints, develop circuit cards, and care for all the mechanical interfaces
• Familiarity with the PCB layout process and manufacturing methods
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis, and fatigue/lifecycle testing
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile development environment with evolving priorities

$187,000 - $281,000 a year
