Job summary

Applied Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for a remote role to join a team of engineers focused on high-quality design, value-add solutions, and ongoing career growth.

You will lead electrical design and validation across subsystems, own schematics and BOMs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The role includes mentoring junior engineers, supporting planning, and driving project execution across North America.

Qualifications

• Requires a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of industrial electrical design or electromechanical experience.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls and system integration.
• Experience designing specs for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Ability to validate components using NEC, UL, and derating criteria.
• Experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with safety, compliance, manufacturability, and power solutions standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks Electrical.

We are seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team as a Electrical Design Engineer. You will be part of a group of engineers dedicated to high-quality work, value-add solutions, skill development, and career growth.

As Electrical Design Engineer, you will:

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams
• Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution
• Contribute to projects that impact communities across North America

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria
• Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting
• Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions
• Ability to specify safe and effective prototype testing practices
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, ETAP, SKM, or similar tools
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
• Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA
• Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems preferred
• Desire to work on a variety of projects
