Job summary

Texture is hiring a senior engineer to lead architecture and data modeling for a greenfield energy platform in the United States. You will work closely with the CTO to design scalable systems and data schemas, spanning front-end, back-end, and DevOps.

You will help build the core architectural foundation, enforce RBAC and event-sourcing concepts, and evaluate REST, GraphQL, Protocol Buffers, and RPC as the primary data transport methods. Mentorship and independent ownership are expected.

What you’ll do

Working closely with our Chief Technology Officer, you will help build the foundation for our platform.

At the start, we will be integrating with and building a platform for devices that supply or use energy which developers can build upon and streaming all of their data in ways that developers can utilize.

Texture is just getting off the ground so it is currently a clean empty canvas. Your job is to help fill that canvas with everything we need to achieve this dream including the architecture, data schemas, and systems.

Who we are looking for

• You are passionate about data modeling and have a proven track record of designing excellent data schemas that work at scale
• You hop fluidly from front end to back end to DevOps and are comfortable at all layers of the stack
• You can lead the architecture and design of our systems as we scale the platform and the team
• You are able to operate independently without much oversight
• You love to coach and mentor less experienced engineers
• You understand the value of things like RBAC, event sourcing, CQRS, DORA metrics, and IAC
• You have tons of experience using developer platforms so you can help us build our own to be best-in-class
• You independently research and stay up-to-date with new technologies and engineering methods
• You can geek out on the pros/cons of REST v. GraphQL v. Protocol Buffers v. RPC (and eventually you’ll build with them all here at Texture)

What you’ve done

• At least 7 years of experience in engineering, with a focus on architecture, data modeling, and leadership
• Strong technical expertise in the relevant field
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and stakeholders
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience with project management tools and methodologies
• Bonus for experience operating in a startup environment

Salary

$185,000 - $205,000 per year
