Job summary

NScale is the GPU cloud engineered for AI. We seek a Staff Engineer to provide senior-level engineering support across Power, Utilities & Infrastructure, including AI load strategy, power supply agreements, and substation design.

This role involves technical analysis, negotiations support, and cross-functional collaboration with Legal, Finance, Development, and Construction teams. Site visits, commissioning readiness, and design oversight are expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
  • Experience in power systems engineering or utility engineering 5–8+ years.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to review one-line diagrams and load-flow/reliability studies.
  • PE license or advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering analysis and design support aligned to the team's focus area (e.g., power supply agreements, AI/GPU load strategy, or substation and grid engineering).
  • Support system studies (load flow, short-circuit, reliability) and related technical analysis as needed.
  • Prepare technical documentation supporting negotiations, design decisions, or strategy recommendations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Legal, Finance, Development, Construction) on technical aspects of projects.
  • Visit sites as needed to support commissioning, troubleshooting, and design clarifications.
  • Support technical scope development for behind-the-meter, islanded, and grid-connected load strategies, including design oversight, constructability reviews, operability assessments, and commissioning readiness.
  • As applicable to the team, support on-site power generation design (e.g., generator sets, electrical topology, protection and controls) or integration with UPS/BESS/microgrid controllers.

About The Role
  • We are looking for a Staff Engineer to provide senior-level technical engineering support across our Power, Utilities & Infrastructure teams, including Power Supply Agreements, AI Load Power Strategy, and Substation & Grid Engineering.
  • This is a generic job description used across multiple teams on the Power, Utilities & Infrastructure org chart; the hiring manager and specific team will be confirmed at the time of hire.
  • This role provides technical and engineering analysis supporting the team's specific mission, whether that’s commercial negotiations, load strategy, or substation and grid design.
What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities)

Required
About You (Skills / Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in power systems engineering, utility engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience interpreting technical requirements, tariffs, or system studies as relevant to the team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce or review one-line diagrams and support system studies (load flow, short-circuit, reliability) as relevant to the team.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting data center or large industrial power infrastructure.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Exposure to on-site power generation design and delivery (e.g., reciprocating engines, turbines) or experience with generator OEMs, EPCs, or commissioning providers.

Salary Range: $100,000 USD - $160,000 USD
