Job summary

Rivian in Irvine, CA is seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer to help ensure reliable EMI performance across Rivian's EV platforms, including ECUs and PCBs.

You will collaborate with hardware teams to build EMC models, validate designs in lab environments, and support system integration and testing across vehicle programs. Strong fundamentals in circuit theory and hands-on debugging are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field with 5+ years’ experience.
  • Master’s degree with 3+ years or PhD with 1+ year.
  • Strong fundamentals: analog circuits, RLC, transmission lines, switch‑mode power supplies.
  • Hands-on debugging and cross‑team collaboration; Matlab/Python for data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with hardware designers on Rivian vehicle control electronics.
  • Develop and validate EMC models to predict circuit behavior in real environments.
  • Test ECU and vehicle design margins in Rivian EMC laboratories.
  • Develop system engineering models for EMI Source/Victim interactions and guide wiring design.

Role Summary

We are looking for an Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer who seeks to enter the rapidly growing EV marketplace. Our team focuses on providing EMC technical expertise into the Design and Verification of the PCBAs & ECUs (Electronic Control Units) for current and next‑gen vehicle platforms (Autonomy, Infotainment, Vehicle Controls, Power Conversion, Propulsion, Dynamics etc.). You will be assessing the electromagnetic interactions between all circuits & structures integrated into our vehicles and providing integration guidance and design validation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with hardware designers to develop the next generation of control electronics for Rivian vehicles.
  • Develop and validate electromagnetic models to predict circuit behavior when integrated into vehicles deployed in real‑world environments.
  • Test ECU and vehicle design margins in our EMC laboratories.
  • Develop systems engineering models for sub‑system EMI Source/Victim interactions in vehicles. Feed into electrical and mechanical integration and wiring harness design.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline, + 5 years of work experience.
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline, + 3 years of work experience.
  • PhD degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline, + 1 year of work experience.
  • Good understanding of electrical circuit fundamentals analog circuits, RLC tank circuits, transmission line theory, and switch mode power supplies.
  • Good hands‑on electronics debugging skills with an ability to work across orgs/teams.
  • Experience with scripting language for data analysis (Matlab, Python)

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of electromagnetics physics fundamental concepts (Maxwell’s equations, boundary conditions, electric and magnetic field sources, propagation, shielding)
  • Experience in high‑speed circuit design, radio receiver design, and/or antenna & transmission‑line design.
  • Experience setting up and running electromagnetic simulations with tools such as ANSYS HFSS, SiWave or CST Studio.
  • Experience in using electronic test equipment (network analyzers, frequency response analyzers) for characterizing circuit parasitics in PCBAs or wiring

Pay Disclosure

The salary range for this role is $154,000 - $192,000 for Irvine, CA based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
