D3 Embedded in Rochester, NY, seeks a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to lead design, development, and optimization of complex embedded systems for imaging and radar apps. You will define software architecture, drive technical innovation, and mentor teams to shape product roadmaps.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in embedded software, strong C/C++ expertise, camera/video processing, RTOS/Embedded Linux experience, and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in CS/CE/EE or equivalent years of experience.
  • Ten or more years in embedded software roles.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read schematics and debug digital hardware.
  • Experience writing embedded device drivers.
  • Experience debugging embedded platforms.
  • Proficient in C/C++ for embedded software/firmware.
  • Experience with Embedded Linux: BSP, kernel drivers, device tree.
  • Git version control experience.
  • GCC/GNU toolchain proficiency.
  • Experience with embedded camera/video is desirable.
  • Self-driven with system-level thinking and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • All phases of product development: requirements, architecture, design, implementation, bring-up, validation, and support.
  • Integrate image sensors and cameras into real-time embedded systems.
  • Design and implement high-performance video processing pipelines for real-time data.
  • Develop and debug drivers and application-level code; system verification.
  • Conduct code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and HW/SW integration.
  • Provide technical direction in non-supervisory capacity for complex projects.
  • Support project planning with task definitions and work estimates.
  • Develop and evaluate plans/criteria for projects and activities.
  • Work with Embedded Linux platforms and SDKs; GCC toolchain details.
  • Create tools/methods to improve design reuse and processes.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced engineers.

Embedded Software Engineer, Staff

PayRange: $125,000 -$152,000 annually

Location: Rochester, NY

The Role:

D3 Embedded isseekinga highly skilled Staff Embedded Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of complex embedded systemsfor intelligent imaging and radarapplications. This role involves defining software architecture, driving technical innovation, and solving challenging system-level issues. The ideal candidate has deepexpertisein embedded C/C++,embedded imaging with CMOS cameras and similar sensors, knowledge of video pipe architectures,real-time operating systems (RTOS), microcontroller architectures, and low-level hardware interactions.As a key technical leader, this positionrequires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to mentor and guide engineering teams, and a strategic mindset to influence product development and long-term technology roadmaps.

The Responsibilities:
  • All phases of the product development cycle including:
    • requirements definition and architecture
    • software design and development
    • Software implementation
    • hardware bring-up, software/hardware integration
    • verification and validation, and customer support
    • Embedded processors running real-time operating systems or Embedded Linux on custom electronics.
  • Integrating image sensors and cameras into real time embedded systems
  • Designing and implementing high performance video processing pipes that usereal-timeimageand radar data.
  • Technical tasks including;
    • assistingwith board bring-up
    • developing driver and application-level code
    • system verification
  • Conductandoverseecode reviews, unit testing, debugging, and software/hardware integration.
  • Technical direction and leadership in a non-supervisory capacity for complex engineering projects
  • Support project planning efforts including task definition and work effort.
  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for various projects and activities you will do.
  • Embedded Linux platforms

The Right Person Will Have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering discipline and/or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum10years of experience in Embedded Software role
  • Excellent problem solving & troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read schematics and debug digital hardware using oscilloscope, logic analyzer, or similar tools for troubleshooting.
  • Experience writing embedded device drivers
  • Experience debugging embedded platforms
  • Knowledge of embedded software and firmware development, including C and C++.
  • Up to date experience with Embedded Linux platforms, configuration, board support package, kernel drivers, and device tree
  • Experience using GIT version control system
  • Experience developing with GCC/GNU toolchain
  • Experience with embedded camera and video processing is desirable.
  • Self-Driven personality
  • Capable of a big picture, system-oriented approach
  • Solid technical leadership skills
