Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Electrical Lead Engineer to serve as a senior technical leader in the Launch Systems Infrastructure. The role is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program, reporting to Infrastructure leadership and coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities include ensuring robust technical products, driving process improvements, and presenting updates to leadership while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 12+ years of experience; or Master’s with 10+ years; or PhD with 8+ years.
  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance at time of application, with ability to obtain Top Secret.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval.
  • At least 4 years leading electrical design on MILCON/infrastructure/aerospace programs.
  • Experience with electrical and power systems design, cable design/qualification, controls systems and engines/generators.
  • Experience in power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, relay coordination).
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IBC, and facilities criteria.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time.

  • Decompose direction to technical teams and ensure adherence.
  • Negotiate priorities among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish relationships with internal orgs, customers, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • Provide regular briefings and reports to executive leadership.

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Staff Electrical Lead Engineer with the background, vision, and people skills to serve as a senior technical leader in the Launch Systems (LS ) Infrastructure (INF). This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program.

What You’ll Get To Do

The Electrical Lead Engineer reports to the Director of Infrastructure and is responsible for ensuring robust, timely, and well-coordinated technical products within the Infrastructure scope of work; identifying, actioning, and measuring technical process improvements and optimization; and working with other technical leaders across the Sentinel program to represent Infrastructure work products and dependencies.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Review INF work products via peer reviews, Design Reviews, and various board meetings to ensure adherence to the Sentinel technical baseline and associated requirements and processes.
  • Balancing stringent quality standards for technical artifacts (e.g. Technical Data Packages, Product Data Packages) with the rapid pace of procurement, fabrication, and construction of test assets and early prototypes.
  • Presenting sufficient information to Program Management to make informed decisions between conflicting technical approaches based upon program and IPT-level cost, schedule, and technical impacts and risk.
  • In coordination with the Office of the Chief Engineer, championing process improvements that allow the systems engineering, design engineering, and analysis teams to define and board high quality products in a cost and time efficient manner.
  • Cross-Element Coordination:
  • Working closely with technical leadership and contributors across the program to identify impacts on INF work scope resulting from external changes or impacts on external stakeholders resulting from INF artifacts.
  • Developing joint solutions to cross-segment or cross-element technical challenges, balancing impacts, risks, and opportunities to identify the best overall options for the Sentinel program.
  • Communication:
  • Decomposing direction from INF leadership and Office of the Chief Engineer to technical teams performing work and ensuring understanding and adherence to that direction.
  • Negotiating competing priorities and interests across a wide range of internal and external stakeholder communities to pursue the best course of action for the Sentinel program.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of distinct internal organizations, customer communities, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • Providing regular briefings, reports, and other communications to executive leadership.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with 12 years of experience; or Master's degree with 10 years of experience; or PhD with 8 years of experience
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • At least 4 year of experience leading Electrical design efforts on MILCON, major infrastructure/building projects, or Aerospace and Defense programs.
  • Relevant experience must include experience with electrical and power systems design, knowledge of cable design and qualification processes, controls systems and engine/generator sets.
  • Experience in power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), International Building Code (IBC) and Unified
  • Facilities Criteria.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in STEM preferably an Engineering degree
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an active Special Access Program (SAP)
  • Familiarity with TEMPEST and EMI requirements and design implementations
  • Experience with ETAP Electrical Power and EasyPower System Analysis software
  • Experience in NX for cable assembly routing or general mechanical design
  • Proven performance as an Engineering Leader in all phases of acquisition, design, integration, and execution.
  • Strong understanding and broad application of engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in making sound decisions in uncertain and difficult situations

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
