Our company is built on the idea that diverse fields of study must come together to solve intractable problems. We have grand ambitions to create technology that will influence industry around the world. You will be joining a diverse team with a vibrant culture, where team success is as important as celebrating individual contributions.

Help us change the world and we will help you change yours.

We are looking for a mid-level Electrical Engineer who has interest in PCBA design, components and systems. This engineer must have skills in the definition and specification of requirements, the design of electronics and printed circuit board assemblies, and the development, building, and testing of electronics hardware.

This is an in-office role with 4-5 days expected in office in Sunnyvale, California. Flexible working from home is allowed during different phases of our projects.

Responsibilities
  • Specify, design, and implement electronic systems at both the board and full‑system level, spanning analog, digital, and high‑power circuits.
  • Own the architecture, design, and documentation of system wiring and harness solutions.
  • Drive cross‑functional collaboration with mechanical, firmware, software, and systems engineers to define requirements, build prototypes to validate designs, develop production designs, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Define the strategy for building and maintaining test setups that the hardware and software teams use during development.
  • Lead and perform reviews of specifications, schematics, layouts, test plans, and results.
  • Create and maintain design documentation to support knowledge transfer across teams.
  • Define the strategy for manufacturing and end‑of‑line testing, lead execution, and ensure successful handoff to the manufacturing team.
Requirements
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • End‑to‑end PCBA design experience: specification, design, simulation, layout, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of analog, digital, and power circuits.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and communication interfaces (USB, I2C, SPI, etc.).
  • Proficiency with test and debug techniques for troubleshooting at the circuit and system level using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench equipment.
Preferred
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Experience hand‑building PCBAs and wiring harnesses for prototype systems.
  • Experience with in‑circuit testing of PCBAs.
  • Experience with electromagnetic compliance (EMC) testing.
  • Experience with mechatronic electrical systems.
  • Track record of taking electromechanical products from concept to production.
  • Ability to work with the firmware team to implement low‑level drivers for your boards.

You do not need to match every listed expectation to apply for this position. Here at Carbon, we know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful, and we are committed to building a team that encompasses a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills.

The compensation bracket for this position is $137,600 – $273,600 per year. In order to maintain equitable internal pay practices, we aim to hire new employees near the midpoint of $172,000 to $228,000, taking into account experience, work location, certifications, and the unique skills you bring to the role. If you are not based in our Sunnyvale office, the range above will be adjusted for the geographical differential associated with your actual work location.

Carbon also offers to our eligible employees a comprehensive total rewards package that includes equity, benefits, and time off programs.
