Job summary

Fulfil is hiring a Staff Electrical Engineer to join a fast-paced startup developing PCBAs for proprietary industrial automation equipment. You will own electrical design, analog/digital circuits, and EMI/EMC compliance, collaborating with mechanical, software, and systems teams.

You will work with contract manufacturers, lead safety and standards, and travel ~25%. The role offers a hybrid work structure, competitive health benefits, 401K, and stock options.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • 8+ years of professional work experience.
  • Experience with EMC design and radiated emissions compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Own challenging electrical design projects in industrial automation and robotics.
  • Own the PCBA design process from gathering requirements through design, prototyping, and validation.

Job Description:

Fulfil is hiring a Staff Electrical Engineer to join us at a fast-paced startup in a multi-disciplinary engineering team. In this role, you will own the design of PCBAs for our proprietary industrial automation equipment in accordance with industry standards, best practices, and requirements. This role offers ample growth opportunities while working side-by-side with cross functional engineering teams of Mechanical, Systems, SW/FW, and Operations to bring our innovative and exciting new technology to reality.

In This Role You Will
  • Own challenging electrical design projects in industrial automation and robotics
  • Own the PCBA design process from gathering requirements through design, prototyping, and validation
  • Document design concepts, trade studies, test procedures, and applicable assembly instructions
  • Work with a cross functional team (mechatronics, systems, software, firmware, and operations teams) to design robust electrical systems
  • Work with contract manufacturers to ensure efficient manufacturing and high quality products.
  • Design for compliance with UL, ISO, IEC, and NFPA standards
  • Test new designs on the bench and in-system to ensure function and performance
  • Lead teams in safety and standards compliant work with electronics, training others to work using safe practices and procedures
  • Impact the company’s overall performance by contributing to a positive work culture, encouraging good engineering practices, and helping to create and improve robust engineering workflows and processes
What We’re Looking For
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
  • 8+ years of professional work experience
  • Expert in analog and digital circuit design, high speed design, and components selection
  • Proven experience designing for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), with a focus on radiated emissions compliance
  • Experience with electro-mechanical integration of PCBAs, including designs with heatsinked components
  • Experience implementing self-test features and defining production test processes
  • Experience with industrial communications protocols (CAN, Ethernet, RS485, SPI, etc.)
  • Familiarity with automation and control equipment (motor control, PLCs, sensors, etc.)
  • Expert in schematic capture and layout for PCBs
  • Expert in PCBA design validation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
  • Proficient in PCBA development tools such as Altium or Cadence
  • Proficient in utilizing common electrical lab equipment (signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time
What We’d Love To See
  • 10+ years of professional work experience
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Familiarity with IEC 61508 and ISO 13849, designing for functional safety
  • Advanced proficiency with Altium Designer
  • Familiarity with PLC families and architectures
  • Experience with robotics, motors, and other electromechanical components
  • Experience with high volume PCBA design and manufacturing, board level component selection, bring-up, and test
  • Not afraid of robots

  • The salary range for this position is $164,000 - $212,000 plus stock and benefits. Pay within the range is based on candidate experience, job-specific skills, education, and work location.
