Job summary

Firestorm is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to build the systems layer behind Crucible's edge deployments. You will own the Linux environment, deployment and lifecycle infrastructure, and the interfaces between Crucible and machines, workstations, printers, and other factory equipment.

You will enable edge computing in air-gapped environments, ensure reliability during disconnects, and drive provisioning, updates, and diagnostics across a production fleet.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
• 8+ years building systems, platform, infrastructure, or embedded Linux software.
• Deep Linux experience including processes, networking, filesystems, service management, and debugging.
• Strong proficiency in at least one systems programming language.
• Experience with provisioning, configuration management, software updates, or device lifecycle management.
• Experience integrating software with hardware, peripherals, or external devices.
• Demonstrated ability to debug across software, OS, network, and hardware boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Build Crucible's edge platform — design runtime and infrastructure for factories, xCells, and air-gapped environments.
• Own the Linux environment — configure, provision, network, secure, update, and recover systems.
• Connect the factory floor — build interfaces to machines, workstations, printers, scanners, and test equipment.
• Build for disconnected operation — ensure reliability during network loss and recovery.
• Own device lifecycle — tooling for provisioning, updates, diagnostics, and fleet management.
• Debug the full system — troubleshoot across applications, Linux, networking, peripherals, and hardware.
• Partner on architecture — collaborate on edge-to-cloud interfaces, topology, security, and boundaries.
