Job summary

Jobtailor in Long Beach, CA is seeking an experienced engineer to lead supplier quality during the transition to high-volume production. You will define specs, assess supplier capabilities with DFM tools, and drive PPAP and cost-optimization initiatives.

The role requires hands-on leadership, 8+ years in automotive/manufacturing, CATIA proficiency, and experience with Lean Six Sigma and Minitab to ensure manufacturability and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering with relevant experience.
  • 8+ years in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with PPAP, Lean Six Sigma, and Minitab.

Responsibilities

  • Own processes, communication, and documentation during transition to high volume production.
  • Develop correct specs for successful RFQ's using reliability goals and FMEA's.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities using Product DFM & Process DFM tools.
  • Define supplier quality goals during DFM negotiations and prototype phases for pre-production activities.
  • Ensure 100% DFM prior sourcing for new complex technologies; manage CAPEX and tooling.
  • Conduct supplier visits to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Support design team in generating and checking 2-D drawings and component specifications.
  • Define internal specification development procedures.
  • Perform design for manufacturing review of components and systems.
  • Validate quoted costs vs. reality of production, and eliminate supplier waste for optimized cost.
  • Help define and drive program schedule based on supplier lead-times.
  • Ensure engineering design work and supplier milestones are met.
  • Directly contribute to hiring and building out of engineering and quality teams.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Own processes, communication, and documentation during transition to high volume production.
  • Develop correct specs for successful RFQ's using reliability goals and FMEA's.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities using Product DFM & Process DFM tools.
  • Define supplier quality goals during DFM negotiations and prototype phases for pre-production activities.
  • Ensure 100% DFM prior sourcing for new complex technologies. Captures CAPEX and tooling. BOD/BOM/BOP captured; after sourcing continues to evolve for industrialization readiness, single source of truth for industrialization execution for PPAP QOE delivery.

  • Support design team in generating and checking 2-D drawings and component specifications.
  • Define internal specification development procedures.
  • Perform design for manufacturing review of components and systems.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive or related high volume manufacturing field.
  • Proficiency in CATIA.
  • Experience with PPAP, Lean Six Sigma, and Minitab.
  • Strong engineering and quality skills to support supplier process and quality negotiations.
  • Previous experience as a design and quality engineer.
  • Ability to provide feedback on supplier processes to ensure manufacturability and cost optimization.
  • Ability to hire and recruit engineering and supply chain team member.
  • Leading people, assertiveness and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in supplier quality management and production management.
  • Familiarity with GD & T and DFM.
  • Understanding of QMS and SPC.
