Job summary

The Veterans Health Care Systems of the Ozarks is recruiting for a full-time Staff Dentist who is responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The incumbent will respond to patient telephone calls - informing patients of test/lab results - renewing medication prescriptions - giving telephone or e-mail advice to other providers - and administrative duties - as assigned.

On-call responsibilities are shared among the dentists.

Responsibilities

• Entering accurate, complete, timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patient’s electronic record
• Proper use, maintenance, and calibration of specialized dental equipment
• Adheres to safety, health, infection control standards and ergonomic practices
• Reports unsafe conditions to supervisors or appropriate officials
• Assists in orientation of new staff and educates patients and families per VA policies
• Assists with educating dental residents
• Maintains supplies, equipment and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency
• Participates in performance improvement activities, disaster preparedness and administrative duties as assigned by the Chief, Dental Service

• Major Duties/Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: The incumbent is responsible for entering accurate - complete - timely progress notes for each episode of care in the patient's electronic record
• Responsible for the proper use - maintenance - and calibration of specialized equipment used in the assessment and care of patients
• Adheres to safety - health - and infection control standards - regulations and work practices - as well as ergonomic standards
• He/she reports any unsafe conditions to supervisory and/or appropriate officials
• Assists in orientation of new staff - and will provide patient and family education - including informed consent which is documented according to corresponding VA policies
• The incumbent will assist with educating dental resident
• Maintains supplies - equipment and clinical areas to optimize safety and efficiency
• Demonstrates knowledge and maintains standards in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME)
• The staff dentist is expected to participate in performance improvement activities - disaster preparedness - administrative duties - and other responsibilities assigned by the Chief - Dental Service
