Job summary

Databricks is a leading data and AI platform company seeking an experienced software engineer for the Runtime team. You will help build the next generation distributed data storage and processing systems that outperform SQL engines while supporting diverse workloads from ETL to data science.

You will work on projects like Delta Lake and Delta Pipelines, delivering high performance, scalable solutions and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to drive customer value and impact.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• MS or PhD in databases or distributed systems (optional).
• Ability to work toward a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables.
• Driven by delivering customer value and impact.
• 8+ years of production-level experience in Java, Scala or C++.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures.
• Experience with distributed systems, databases, and big data systems (Spark, Hadoop).

Responsibilities

• Build next generation distributed data storage and processing systems.
• Develop performance-optimized features for SQL query engines.
• Contribute to Delta Lake/Delta Pipelines projects and related tooling.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer value.
